Denverpost: Legal challenges may follow Ref. C
http://www.denverpost.com/politics/ci_3175744

They lost the fight over Referendum C, but Colorado's small-government activists may not be out of tricks yet, they said today.

The leaders of the movement now are considering their legal options, they said. They could move quickly and seek a court order stopping the legislature from spending any of the $3.7 billion to be generated by the five-year suspension of Taxpayer's Bill of Rights refunds. Or they could wait until the referendum's statutory fix to TABOR's so-called ratchet effect kicks in, a tweak to the TABOR amendment that critics say will be unconstitutional.

...

Dumbasses..

1. Bruce never wins these lawsuits
Although he's lucky to have escaped lawsuit damages himself considering all the awful apartment buildings he owns.

3. I often wonder
when people are going to wake up to the republican hypocrisy. Dems are constantly accused of subverting the will of the people through the courts. But recent history shows that is not even a little bit fair.

The religious right and the repubs were all over the courts during the Schiavo case. Douglas Bruce has cost the Colorado Springs and Colorado huge amounts of money through his lawsuits (many of those lawsuits after people voted against Bruce's wishes). And, at times, it is not the courts but other backdoor measures. We have voted down school vouchers twice, and yet Steve Schuck and his cronies keep trying to get voucher people on the school boards (failed pretty badly in D11 didn't you Schuck). They will not rest until vouchers are the law of the land...will of the people be damned.

4. Steve Schuck thinks he knows how to improve education.
He has bought into the "market forces" and "privatization" of just about everything. He doesn't have a clue how much he doesn't know about the problems facing public education. These people still talk about "failing government schools" as if that is the problem. I think it incredible that they don't understand that "market forces" have created some of the very conditions that cause the problems that schools face everyday.

The schools aren't failing so much as we have failed the schools.

He is right about change being needed, but that is about as far as he has gotten in thinking this thing through. If lower performing students were all the fault of the unions and the administration, parents could take their kids to Stratton, Steel, or Trailblazer for elementary school, and to schools that offer the IB program for middle school and high school. Looking into why they don't could be instructive.

And I hope Sandy Shakes is reelected president of the school board. Christen and Cox are ignorant bullies who want to push people around more than they want to help education. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them resigns in the next year.

erm...Did you drag that soap box in here? ;)

5. Yep...sorry
That soapbox has been attached to me of late. I better lose it over Thanksgiving when the religious right in-laws come over *sigh*. :)

Happy Thanksgiving all.
