Anyone see the amazing quote by St Rep Hazel Plant about the Death Penalty
As you know, yesterday the SCOTUS barred using the death penalty against crimes committed by minors (anyone under the age of 18). Delaware had one such person on death row - Michael L. Jones. What makes State Representative Hazel Plant's quote so poignant is the fact that her granddaughter was one of the victims killed by then 17 year old Michael L. Jones

Plant's grandmother, state Rep. Hazel D. Plant, D-Wilmington Central, said she was gratified that Jones would not be executed.

"I'm not in favor of the death penalty, I never have been, and I was hoping the jury would spare his life,'' she said. "I am glad to hear that children under 18 will not be put to death.''

Hazel Plant, who is raising Maneeka's son, Nadif, now 5, said Jones' execution would not have brought back her only granddaughter. "If they put him to death,'' Plant said, "his mother would be suffering like me.''

(It does mention that her Hazel's son (the victim's father) felt the opposite)

1. She's smart and compassionate
I think victims families need to be more vocal if they do not support the death penalty. It would shut a lot of the "if it was your mom, you'd want them dead' crowd.

3. Matthew Shepard's father did the same exact thing
And probably spared the life of the men who committed the hate crime against his son!

2. Thou shalt not kill -
"It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished, unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets."
