Former Broward mayor to run for Congress
Ben Graber, a former Broward mayor, will run against longtime incumbent Robert Wexler for Congress.

By AMY SHERMAN
asherman@MiamiHerald.com

After decades in politics, including a recent failed bid for state Senate, former Broward County Commissioner Ben Graber intends to challenge an 11-year incumbent for Congress.

Graber said Monday that he will run against Congressman Robert Wexler for the seat in District 19 that includes northern Broward and southern Palm Beach counties.

''It's my home seat,'' said Graber, who served on the County Commission between 2000 and 2006, and before that served four terms in the state House. ``I'm well-known in the district.''

Graber and Wexler are both Democrats. They will compete in the September 2008 primary.

Graber describes Wexler as a do-nothing congressman who frequently travels overseas and voted in favor ofthe Iraq war in 2002.

1. Yeesh. I'd rather have Wexler.
And, in any case, Graber'll probably get whupped by the incumbent.

2. Ben who?
Okay, okay, I know who he is - well, after I looked him up because I forgot. Let's just say I'm not terribly impressed. And I found this interesting little tidbit -

<snip>

Former Broward County Commissioner and ex-state Rep. Ben Graber has concluded he's too liberal for the GOP and won't jump parties and congressional districts to challenge Klein.

Graber's focus has returned to a possible Democratic primary challenge of U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler.

Anyone considering a jump to the GOP has already lost my vote.
