"It's a prayer, it's a protest" - Statehouse Session Opens
Ok, this shit's just starting to piss me off. They're acting like a bunch of snotty children.
Someone needs to go in there next time and lay out a Wiccan or Satanic prayer circle, complete with pentagrams on the floor. Hell, if they want to pray to their Jesus at the Statehouse ... everyone else should ALL be allowed to pray, to who or whatever they worship. Right ???

It's a prayer, it's a protest
Following a plan carefully crafted, lawmakers bow heads before opening gavel

By Robert King and Bill Ruthhart

Republican House leaders made it clear Wednesday they don't agree with a judge's ban on prayers that invoke the name of Jesus Christ during their proceedings.

But, led by House Speaker Brian C. Bosma, they decided to forgo the 189-year tradition of invocations -- at least for now -- and opted instead to have a free-spirited prayer huddle in the back of the House chamber minutes before the opening gavel. "We're taking a stand. We're making a statement," Bosma said. "But within the bounds of the court order."

Two other prayer sessions were held in the Statehouse Rotunda, led by citizens supportive of keeping prayer in the House.

Bosma's maneuver, crafted in the hours leading up to the start of business Wednesday, dominated the House's opening day for 2006. The legislative session itself lasted less than 20 minutes.

1. "I've asked (God)...
and he doesn't like it."

That's the quote I liked best. Coming in a close second was:

"...Rep. P. Eric Turner, R-Marion, asked God to give House members wisdom and to help them act in a Christ-like way."

They should try reading that book they believe is sacred. It says Christ said pray in a closet, not on the streetcorner like hypocrites do. :eyes:

Look at it this way hippiechick. While they're pulling these stunts, they don't have time to pass any more stupid laws.

God license plate gets initial nod
'In God We Trust' idea passes House panel, will go to the floor

By Bill Ruthhart
bill.ruthhart@indystar.com
Indiana has license plates dedicated to everything from Girl Scouts to the Indianapolis Colts, but some legislators want to add one more -- for God.

For the second straight year, Rep. Woody Burton, R-Greenwood, is pushing for creating an "In God We Trust" license plate. The House passed the bill in last year's session, but it stalled in the Senate.
"What I want is exactly what it says on the dollar bill," Burton said. "Nothing more."
He is more optimistic this time around, mostly because Senate President Pro Tempore Robert D. Garton, R-Columbus, said the bill would reach a Senate committee this session.

Wanna know what else??? Rep. Saunders' son was sentenced to 4 yrs. this past week for leaving a man for dead while driving under the influence...Rep. Saunders co-sponsered a bill when Rep. Roland Stine from Shelbyville was killed by a drunk driver. Saunders=4yrs. Wickliff=26 years
Total bullshit...

9. **UPDATE**
I think I'm starting to see a pattern here, now that Roberts and Scalito are entrenched on the SCOTUS ... the Fundies are tossing all their blatantly offensive shit at us - here and elsewhere - hoping to press it all the way up to the SCOTUS and get a favorable outcome to set precedent for 'the law of the land'. Separation of church and state, abortion, etc. etc ...

Appeals Court Denies Stay of Legislative Prayer Ruling

A federal appeals court is refusing to temporarily lift a judge's order banning prayers during Indiana House proceedings from mentioning Jesus Christ or endorsing any particular religion. The court denied a request by House Speaker Brian Bosma that an injunction be set aside until Bosma's appeal can be heard.

The appeals court says the case involves the internal proceedings of a legislative body and deserves additional review. But the ruling says Bosma didn't meet a legal burden to put the order on hold until the appeal could be heard.

House members have been complying with the order by meeting for informal prayers in the back of their chambers before official business begins.
