Never thought I would link a "drudge" item - but given the local hullaballoo about the tollroad deal - in which the public seems as much worked up about the "foreign company" part as it does about the whole privatization aspect - and given the public response to the realization that foreign companies run big chunks of operations at ports... thought this was interesting. Wonder if it will be reported about in the Star?

I find it funny that the 9-11 hijackers got on board planes from airports, yet we are happy enough to outsource airport security to foreign companies.

Imagine what would happen if they did that here at Newport...

3. actually the security is in good hands

The man who is in overall charge of the security of the airport is the former Sheriff of Morgan COunty, Terry Weddle.

I know him quite well, and he takes his job very seriously. The British firm that actually owns the airport gives him complete authority to use whatever resources are necessary to exceed all restrictions and requirements. He stopped by our house on Christmas eve and stayed for dinner, telling us all about the security updates in place. He really can be trusted to do this job.
