Mongiardo seeks seven debates in Senate campaign
Democrat confirms staff members fired, new manager hired

FRANKFORT, Ky. — State Sen. Daniel Mongiardo wants his Republican opponent, U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning, to debate him throughout the state leading up to their November contest.

Mongiardo, a Democrat, also confirmed yesterday that he has fired three staff members who worked on fund-raising for his primary campaign and hired a new campaign manager.

Mongiardo and Bunning won their party nominations on Tuesday, according to unofficial primary results.

Mongiardo has asked Bunning, who is seeking his second Senate term, to debate him on television in each of the state's six congressional districts, plus one televised statewide. Mongiardo said he sent Bunning a letter requesting the debates yesterday.

1. Apparently, Bunning has his own debate plans....
I almost wonder if Bunning and Mongiardo will debate at ALL... why do we have to have these arrogant Senators like Bunning and McConnell??

From The Courier-Journal...

FANCY FARM, Ky. — Democratic challenger Daniel Mongiardo used the 124th Fancy Farm Picnic yesterday as a rare chance to take his case for change in Washington directly to his opponent, Republican U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning.

"It's clear. Working families are hurting. They're working hard and harder than ever before with less and less to show for it," said Mongiardo, a state senator from Hazard. "...And Jim Bunning doesn't have a clue."

Bunning, who spoke earlier, did not join the battle. His remarks touted his own record of supporting the military, tax cuts and conservative social values. "I've been there for Kentucky before, and I'll be there again," Bunning said.

Mongiardo challenged Bunning to a series of debates. Afterward, Bunning did not stop for reporters' questions but indicated that he would not agree to such debates.
