"We're going to bury them face down in the ground," |

Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 11:28 PM by nickshepDEM
"We're going to bury them face down in the ground, and it'll be 10 years before they crawl out again." - Senate President Mike Miller on the Maryland Republican Party.
Indeed... and it looks like we have done just that.

1. the party is dead in Maryland |
|
Dems did better in every jurisdiction in the state and most of the improvement was outside of the big three. They have no bench and no way to raise money. Its over for the Republicans for another generation.

2. If only Miller would agree to bury Diebold |
|
"face down in the ground."
He killed legislation that would have required the state's Diebold cheating machines to provide a paper trail, even though it passed in the House of Delegates.

3. We cannot allow this to go another year |
|
Everyone needs to get hold of their State Senator and get this fixed - with or without Miller.

5. She ran for the 3rd District Congressional seat |
|
that John Sarbanes won. I was present when she spoke to a group and the question came up. She denied it, but said there was not a lot of options available - blah, blah, blah.
I think they did not want to give anything to Ehrlich - so it was shelved. That was a shame, but I think you are right about it moving this year. At least I hope so.

the GOP vote was high in many of the districts, although they didn't win and they are still very active. Unless they lose their membership and sponsorship they will still be around unfortunately.

even though they held very few. They have no bench at all for statewide races. The GOP won't compete statewide for at least 10 years.

8. Dealing with GOP statewide |
|
I was so excited about the victory of my beloved Governor Blagojevich of Illinois that I clean forgot to congratulate you on the glorious win by Martin O'Malley! I'm proud that I was/am a Marylander. The Illinois party pursued the same strategy, of wiping them out on the state level. The IDP only went after one Congressional seat, which they lost, unfortunately. In Illinois the Republicans did an effective job of gerrymandering the districts on the federal level, but--clean sweep of statewide seats, and super-majority in both houses of the State Legislature. I like Mr. Miller's attitude (why no paper trail, though?)
