Need people for "Volunteers to Draft Al Gore for 2008" |
|
I attended a meeting in Birmingham last night and they have filed with the FEC to form this group already (I'll have to check on the exact name, but it's close). There will be three groups in various parts of the state -- Detroit metro, Ann Arbor and Lansing. We will meet once a month (on a Sunday afternoon) with all three groups and then most likely the individual groups will also meet separately. We will rotate the location of the meetings. The next one is scheduled for Sunday, February 18 from approx. 2-5 p.m. in Ann Arbor. I will post details once I see if there is any interest. If anyone wants to carpool from the metro area, please let me know.
Right now we are concentrating on getting the word out that Gore is the best candidate for '08 and getting people to sign on and to convince him to run. The meeting last night was run by a retired professor who has gone through Al's "Inconvenient Truth" training and who has met Al and Tipper and spoken with them. He is convinced that Al will run -- he will be very surprised if he doesn't. He's just biding his time, waiting to see how the other candidates pare down and how much support he has. He also really can't do anything until after the Oscars.
I told the group that there's a ton of support coming from the netroots for Gore and that I don't see where all this support for Hillary is coming from -- it's certainly not from the netroots.
Please let me know if you're interested in getting involved with this. We plan to bring some Gore paraphernalia to the state convention on February 24 and could use some volunteers to help with that.

4. I was surprised you weren't at the meeting |
|
They said something about an OCDP meeting you had to attend, but I was surprised I didn't know about anything, unless it was some committee you're on.
Do you want to drive to Ann Arbor on the 18th together? I'll send you the details.

2. I signed the petition last year |
|
so I'm on board.
I think Gore is waiting to see how the candidates treat the Globabl climate change issue and then will decide.
also he saves money and energy by not engaging the front runners early, he can also critque how they are missing the big picture the longer he waits.
Some suggested he can wait till the summer or fall, I doubt that. I'm antsy and am watching Edwards the closest. He can certainly wait and to his benefit. He could also win without spending nearly as much money as the others. I suspect he envisions, with his huge public persona and name recognition, he can steamroll what's become a insane and corrupting explosion of money into presidential politics. The 2008 presidential race may cost upwards of $1billion dollars a 10 (TEN) fold increase of what was spent when he ran in 2000. Is it abouting electing the best person with the best ideas for the job or who can raise and spend the most and blur the truth enough to win?

I should do that. Thanks for reminding me. I'll try to get to it sometime today or this evening. It's just so hard to get anything to the front page there so people will actually see it.

I think the Ann Arbor group is established already. The meeting I went to Monday night was to get one going in the metro area. There's also one in the Lansing area. We'll meet once a month as a combined group. I don't have the meeting info with me, but I believe the meeting is at the Ann Arbor Library at 5th and William (does that sound right?) and is from 2-5 or 2:30-5. I'll post it later when I get home and have the info. in front of me.
It will be nice to meet you, finally!

15. I predict Gore will be in at the Academy Awards |
|
Prediction: Gore wins the Academy Award for best documentary for An Inconvenient Truth and announces he's running for President during his acceptance speech. You heard it here first.

I've been saying it for two weeks already. Of course, it's more of a dream than what I realistically expect to happen!

17. This is a first that we disagree, and I must say I predict he will not run. |
|
OK, dearest Sharon, I think you are the best. However, I do not think Al will run. It's partly a feeling, but it is also a belief that he can do more now (like Carter does) than he could trying to chase the ace he should have had in 2000.
Yes, Jr. Shitboy squats in Al's house, but I just do not think A; will run. He has the power of the media at long last with his film, and that is as much an impact as anything.
I like to think of myself as a closet strategist. Remember I predicted Nancy would make it close, and she did. Remember that I predicted a Dem majority in the Congress. OK, I was wrong on the Senate, but that should be given consideration. Biden and Holy Joe are doing thir level best to give the Senate back to the bad guys.

18. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, |
|
but I've heard a lot from a number of people in the know lately, and they all seem to be pretty sure he'll run and will be surprised if he doesn't. I hope you're wrong this time, Maddog, if he doesn't run, I have no idea who I'm going to support in the caucus.

19. Yep, as much as I want him to run too |
|
I don't see him stepping in. Also, Gore will address Congress March 21st on Global warming. I don't see him announcing before then. Like I said before he'll monitor the candidates closely on the Global Clmate change issue then decide if he could do more as President or what he is doing now.
Also, he may attend the Oscars but I'm not sure if he'll take the stage, normally the award goes to the film's director's and producers and I think I read somewhere he'll likely won't take the stage if they win. Now that could change, etc.
