The Snow Lay On The Ground...
Edited on Sat Dec-11-10 09:19 AM by MineralMan
But the stars aren't shining all that bright this morning. I'm about to brave the outdoors and do my first snow removal pass. It's easier to remove 12-16" of snow in two passes. I'm hoping the snow ends fairly early this afternoon, so I can blow my driveway and walks both times today. It's going to be cold as ice tomorrow, and I'm not really willing to sacrifice my nose.

Wow! Two song allusions in one post. I'm punchy already. Uff da! as they say here in Minnesnowta.

2. First pass of snow removal is done. About 10" and
an hour and a half with the snowblower. Some drifts almost 24" deep. Very slow going. I'm going to go out and repeat the process after the next 6" falls, then do the final cleanup tomorrow. It's going to be below zero tomorrow, so I'm trying to get most of the work done while it's still around 20 degrees.

I don't know what all the people who are waiting until the end of the storm are going to do. If you don't keep up with this heavy a snowstorm, you have a very, very tough job at the end.

3. I've hired a guy in the neighborhood to do it for me.
There are some things that are worth paying for, and on days like this snow removal is one of them. Anyhow, I'm old and trying to do it myself would probably kill me.

4. Yeah. That time is probably coming for me one of these years.
I'm 65. If it weren't for the snowblower, I couldn't do it. I have very little shoveling to do,

9. More snow predicted for Wednesday into Thursday
though, from what I heard, not anything like what we've had in the last 24 hours.

Why do I keep thinking about Laura Ingalls Wilder's book "The Long Winter"?
