Homophobia tints same-sex marriage debate
By Patrick Buckalew and Kevin Hallgren, Founders, Mizzou Students For Gay And Lesbian Equality. Posted April 08, 2005.
With a bill in the Missouri House of Representatives that could cut MU’s funding if it doesn’t remove the sexual orientation clause from its non-discrimination policy, and the ongoing debate over same-sex marriage, you can’t turn on the nightly news without a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender topic grabbing your ear.

Only one state recognizes same-sex civil unions and only one state recognizes same-sex marriage. Canada, Belgium and the Netherlands all allow same-sex marriage. San Francisco and parts of New York, Oregon and New Mexico found that gay and lesbian couples had the right to marry under their state non-discrimination laws, but all marriage licenses issued were quickly overturned. Many states, including Missouri, still do not include sexual orientation or gender identity in their non-discrimination policies.

As well as not having partnership recognition in most states, LGBT individuals face discrimination when it comes to parenting. Only 10 states have court rulings or laws that protect adopters from discrimination based on sexual orientation. Almost every credible organization that has done studies on same-sex parenting, including the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics, has concluded that children raised in same-sex households become emotionally, psychologically and intellectually equal to children raised in households with opposite-sex parents.

1. I want actual examples of how gay marriage could possibly
harm 'traditional' marriage. Concrete examples.

Problem for the wingnuts: THERE AREN'T ANY!!! Heterosexuals have done a damn good job all by themselves messing with marriage. I have yet to hear ONE argument against it. All the right wing does is say 'it undermines traditional marriage' but never, ever, EVER says how or why.
