1. I be driving people to the polls...
On election day in Warren County("The Broccoli"). That said, out here is a tough nut to crack. These people are ham-sandwich repukes out here. Even though a good deli ham on rye, with spicy mustard, is smarter than Ol' Ernie.

2. Garrett Accuses Shulman of Lacking a Commitment to the US Constitution
"Democrat Dennis Shulman trying to unseat U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett for seat serving Warren County
Thursday, October 30, 2008

By JESSICA COOMES The Express-Times

"U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett, R-Warren, a conservative who prioritizes tax cuts, is running a contentious re-election campaign against political newcomer Dennis Shulman, a rabbi who paints himself as a problem solver. Shulman, a psychologist, launched his first-ever campaign last year and has raised at least $900,000. That's less than Garrett's $1.3 million but nearly double what Garrett's opponent in 2006, Paul Aronsohn, raised. Shulman would be the first rabbi in Congress and the first blind member in decades.

Shulman said he's a problem solver: "As a blind person, I've had to do that to function in the world. As a psychologist, one is dedicated to helping someone solve real-life problems. As a rabbi, as a community leader, you're dealing with the same type of issues, how to address problems in the community or how to address spiritual problems."

... Garrett said Shulman would negotiate with terrorists. Shulman said he was most offended by a Garrett news release saying Shulman "lacks a commitment to the United States Constitution and our political heritage as a nation."

3. Great endorsement of Shulman
http://www.northjersey.com/opinion/Shulman_for_Congress.html

"Shulman's ..smart, well-educated and well-informed, and we believe he would take a moderate-to-liberal position in Congress. He promises to advocate strongly for the disabled. He also pledges to never accept contributions from industries that he would oversee on any House committee.

Garrett is challenging the basic tenets of common decency. The high-minded, fiscal conservative has resorted to the lowest form of campaigning. The congressman has been running television ads, in addition to sending out a direct-mail campaign piece, that link Shulman to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Garrett wants voters to believe that Shulman, a rabbi, would sell out Israel. It is beyond the pale.

Before this campaign, we would have argued against Garrett’s reelection because the congressman’s strident fiscal ideology hampers his effectiveness as an advocate for North Jersey. We do not expect to agree on all issues, but Garrett votes consistently against almost all government funding. It doesn’t matter whether it’s disaster relief aid or funding for health insurance for children. Garrett votes no.

There is much work to be done in Washington. Garrett is not the man for the job. He alienates Republicans and Democrats. That is not the bipartisan résumé for a federal legislator."
