Could same-sex marriage be legalized in New Jersey? |
|
New Jersey appears to be one of the best states in terms of legalizing same-sex marriage.
All the chips are in the right place. The state committee that periodically evaluates the civil union law has concluded unanimously that civil unions are insufficient and gender-neutral marriage laws are the only answer. The New Jersey State Bar Association agrees. This takes the wind out of the argument that civil unions are enough, which is valuable. A majority (albeit slim) of the people supports same-sex marriage. And Governor Corzine would sign legislation legalizing it, meaning a supermajority in both chambers of the legislature isn't needed like it was in Vermont.
The question is, will New Jersey get off its ass already and do the right thing?

2. I think so. Given how civil unions was a progressive move, |

I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen in New Jersey next.

3. i've contacted my legislaters about it |
|
only to have my emails to them completely spun in the GOP direction. I've saved the responses I got (spinning everything) cause I plan on using it in my campaign groups.
I really hope that NJ is next.
