Looking for information on Senator Bingaman
I am a resident of Louisiana and my Congressman has made some allegations about your Senator that I would like checked out.

Here is a letter that was written to us...

"Dear Friends,
I need your help. Will you take 5 minutes out of your day to call, email or fax an S.O.S to Senator Jeff Bingaman.

As you know, Louisiana's coast is disappearing at an alarming rate. If we do not stop this erosion, the economic, ecological, and environmental impacts will be devasting to our state and will disrupt our nation's energy supply. Stopping the devastation and restoring our coast will take years and billions of dollars to accomplish.

That's why I fought so hard to include a provision in the energy bill to allow Louisiana to keep a portion of the royalties generated by deepwater drilling. The provision would generate more than $1 billion a year, money which would be used to rebuild our coast and protect against future erosion. My provision passed the House with bipartisan support and was sent to the Senate.

That is where Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) has launched his own attack on Louisiana's coast. He has pledged to kill the amendment and prevent Louisiana from getting our fair share of drilling royalties - the height of hypocricy since his own state recieves money from on-shore drilling.

I have faxed an urgent S.O.S ("Save Our State") to Sen. Bingaman demanding that he remove his objection to the provision and help Louisiana protect our coast and our future. There is too much at stake. I encourage you to take the S.O.S below and send your own message to Sen. Bingaman (fax: 202-224-2852). Let him know that Louisianians won't stand for politics as usual that put us in danger. Let him know how you feel. You can also go to http://www.bobbyjindal.com/misc/SOS%20_2_.pdf and print off a sample letter signed by you to fax.

Let him know that he has the power to Save Our State."

Forgetting the typos in the letter for a second, does anyone know if this objection made by Senator Bingaman is factual or just posturing by my Freshman Congressman?
