Movin' to Albuquerque in 2 days
Hey all,

Movin to ABQ -- got a nice job down there at a decent company.

Lookin to spend about $1000-$1200 a month on rent...whats a nice(and safe) area to live down there in the Albuquerque area thats semi-close to the campus (where my tech company is located..)?

Also, any good ideas for activities for my wife w/baby? Any heads up in terms of organizations, etc.. that we could join would be great.

1. When you say 'the campus' do you mean the UNM/TVI area,
or an industrial campus? What are the major X streets? I grew up there and go back 3-4 times a year - best food in the world! Great time to be going too.

4. I grew up in the Ridgecrest area - about a mile and a half away.
There are MANY housing options. I am preferential to my area

These are a few Nob Hill/ Ridgecrest listings, unfortunately few in NM utilize Craigs list.

I have a sis that could look around for you, but you'll be here so soon that you might want to just cruise around. WARNING - there are a few REALLY bad neighborhoods w/in 3 miles of the campus.

6. The Alb Journal has a lot of listings.
The Thrifty Nickle has many - not so many in the Alibi - but it's a great free local paper.

3. Man, I love ABQ.
Pretty mucho everything about it. Wish I could pass along some words of wisdom, but I'm not in the know. Enjoy; we would move there if we could employment-wise.

8. Don't pay too much for rent - please!
Rents have been increasing since I moved here 3 years ago, and I hate to see that happen, as I used to live in California and moved here to get away from the landlord greed. I don't know how people can afford the higher rents in Albuquerque lately; however, $1,000-1,200 is a lot for rent here. You should still be able to find a nice apartment for half that, or less! We don't have rent control laws here, so be careful not to pay too much, as that is what drives the rents up.
