Who To Call – What to Say – “Keep our Lever Voting Machines!”

Find out who represents you—call “League of Women Voters” 212-725-3541

1. Governor David Paterson
State Capitol, Albany, NY 12224
Phone: 518-474-8390

Message to Governor Paterson:

Please urge the State Assembly and State Senate to rescind ERMA, the state law that requires replacement of our lever voting machines. Please urge our State Board of Elections to return the $50 million federal funds that we accepted to replace the lever machines—because it will cost us millions that we don’t have to do it right. Our lever machines are better and more reliable.

2. Speaker of the Assembly Sheldon Silver
Legislative Office Building 932, Albany, NY 12248
Phone: 518-455-3791 or 212-312-1420
Email: speaker@assembly.state.ny.us

3. Your State Assemblymember

4. Your State Senator

Message for Speaker Silver, your Assemblymember, and your State Senator:

Please rescind ERMA, the state law that requires replacement of our lever machines. Return the $50 million federal funds that we accepted to replace the lever machines—because it will cost us millions that we don’t have to do it right. Our lever machines are better and more reliable.

5. Speaker of the New York City Council Christine Quinn
City Hall, New York, New York 10007
Phone: 212-788-7210 or 212-564-7757

6. Your NYC Council Member

Message to Speaker Quinn and your NYC Council Member:

Please pass a resolution to keep the lever machines to support state and federal action.

7. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer
Phone: 202-224-6542 or 212-486-4430

8. U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand
478 Russell Office Building Washington, DC 20510
Phone: 202-224-4451 or 212-688-6262

9. Your Congressional Representative

Message to Senator Schumer, Senator Gillibrand, and Your Representative:

The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) has always allowed lever machines if used along with accessible voting devices for voters with disabilities. Vendor lobbyists have confused everyone. Please pass a brief amendment to make it clear that we can keep our lever voting machines!

10. President Barack Obama
The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500

Message to President Obama:

New Yorkers want to keep our lever voting machines. Please tell the Dept. of Justice to back off and let us keep them. Our state agreed with the Dept. of Justice to replace them, but federal law does not require lever replacement; and NY now meets all federal requirements for accessible voting equipment in each poll site for use by voters with disabilities.
