How can we get people to vote?! |
|
At 6:45pm I was voter #171. I asked the volunteer how many registered voters are in this precinct. 'About 3,000' he replied. 171 voters out of 3,000 registered potential voters? Why are we bringing democracy to Iraq when there isn't any here in Wake Forest, NC? I guess this is the government we deserve since we can't be bothered to vote.

1. Isn't that the $1000 question. |

I usually resort to begging and maybe a few tears. But seriously, I got maybe 2-4 people to vote in the primary who would not have otherwise. I have what I think of as my e-cinct, a group of like minded friends who are just need a little nudge to participate in democracy.
For the general election, I will be out their with my clip board signing up new voters, and then driving them on election day. I take the small victories when I can get them, and try not to worry too much about the big picture. Big picture stuff feels too overwhelming these days, anyway.

I'll even pass out your fliers to the other disgruntled, liberal stay-at-home-moms at my kid's preschool :)
