So has that mass exodus of businesses out of Oregon happened yet? |
|
We were all warned that if those two tax increase referenda had passed that there would be a mass exodus of businesses out of Oregon?
Has it happened yet?

1. Haven't seen anything about it so far. |

Maybe once tax season is past, there will be some analysis.

told me that his neighbors visited Idaho, and people there told him that Idaho is welcoming many Oregon businesses because of 66 and 67....
No, he has no idea what businesses have decided to move to Idaho, just that a "whole bunch" are. :eyes:

Though I was recently informed that there is some municipality in Wyoming advertising in the Portland area that it has the lowest taxes in the US. It was further claimed that 2 oregon companies have headed there(no specifics given), and then the conversation devolved into "well, if they get a lot of people, they will end up having to raise taxes to pay for the necessary services" "Nuh-uh. government gets more tax money when they lower taxes than when they raise them" "Or perhaps they get more money when there is an economic boom" "could be, but still we gotta lower... Oh, our mutual friend is here, lets not directly interact again this evening" (last part unspoken)

6. IBM just announced an expansion |

Bringing another 600 jobs to the area. You don't suppose that some of the folks opposing Measures 66 and 67 might have been . . . in error? Lying? Fucked in the head? Take your pick. http://www.kgw.com/news/local/IBM-to-hire-600-new-workers-in-Oregon-96899454.html

7. Considering how an increase in personal income tax was opposed as 'job killing,' |
|
...it isn't much of a stretch to apply any of those.

8. I had a friend tell me that she knew of two businesses that were going under. |
|
One was the people who lived across the street the other was her hairdressers husband.I'm not buying it though. My parents (who voted against 66&67) say that it has not changed their business at all. At least not that they have noticed, and my mom does the books. I think those other people had issues before any of this happened.
