Vanity post: See y'all at Reach the Beach, May 15 |
|
Any DUers riding in Reach the Beach might see me (look quick, I'm very fast for 51 years old - ha ha) on the way. Details here: http://action.lungusa.org/site/TR?fr_id=1630&pg=entryActually, I'll be timing myself with a calendar, but I will be riding the whole route.

1. Happily, none of you saw me |

It kicked my butt. I made the whole way, but I have renamed Krueger Road "Freddy Krueger Road." I'm gonna have nightmares about that stretch of road.

2. Great job, Gratuitous, and great cause! |

Congrats! Loved the website photos, especially the ones with bikers raising their bikes on the beach with Haystack Rock in the background. Not sure where Krueger Road is, but sounds like a challenge you can be proud of conquering!

It was a good cause, and a lot of folks duplicated the bike raising photo. I tried, but no way, although Mrs. gratuitous got a photo of me sort of hoisting my bike. Maybe I'll post it somewhere for others' amusement.
That was my third century (100 miles) ride. Compounding the rough beginning on Krueger (rural Washington County, a back road that goes into Yamhill County), I lost my cable so I had to remain in my low gear for the last 50 miles, which meant extra pedaling and slowing me down considerably to add an hour or so to my ride time.
But it was fun, and there were all kinds of terrific riders along the way, and absolutely great volunteers monitoring the route and staffing the rest stops.
