DSCC's Pro-Specter Spending Topped Half A Million
http://blogs.cqpolitics.com/eyeon2010/2010/05/dsccs-pro-specter-spending-top.html

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spent more than half a million dollars to assist Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) ahead of his primary loss to Rep. Joe Sestak, newly filed documents show.

According to the DSCC's April campaign finance report, which it filed Thursday in the Senate's public records office in Washington, the organization spent $540,594 on "coordinated" expenditures to support Specter through the end of last month, including $492,247 in April alone. Sestak won the May 18 primary by 54 percent to 46 percent.

....

Any additional coordinated funds the DSCC spent in Pennsylvania will be itemized on its May report, which is due June 20.

Of course we know that now the DSCC is supporting the nominee. And Toomey's trolls are still at work at DU, but I presume for not much longer.

2. Of course DSCC will raise and spend money for Sestak
Franken already sent out an appeal.

The question is whether you (and others at DU who did not want him to win the primary) will support him now?

If Sestak cuts a check to our county party or helps some of the down ticket candidates,
i could be persuaded!

5. I have been supporting Lentz and Sestak
Probably not Connolly, I don't know anything about him and he's not my district.

Why don't you post some positive stuff about Connolly and Lentz, if you are supporting them? I mean real substantive posts, in place of trashing Sestak?

7. Weldon and Specter have both tried to 'make hay of it'
and see where it got them. if Toomey follows in their footsteps then that would be a good thing. Especially since Toomey already said it was a dishonorable line of attack.

Specter's ad is being widely hailed as backfiring on him, because it helped people get to know Sestak. When they read the Navy Times article, most, like me, say so what? The guys a hard worker and made some enemies ... during 30 YEARS in the Navy. Anyone older than 12 who's dealt with the working world can relate. The voters don't have to work for him. They want to know what he will do for THEM. This story only helps them know that he's a hard worker and not afraid to piss people off.

8. How irritating it is that DU places a Corbett ad within the body of your OP
In that Corbett and Toomey will be perceived as running together on the GOP ticket in PA, I suggest that Sestak supporters familiarize themselves with a huge skeleton in Corbett's closet, i.e,. his major campaign supporter, Waste Management, and Corbett's long and strong ties to them. For non-Pennsylvanians, Tom Corbett is the GOP candidate for governor, running against Pittsburgh/Allegheny County's Dan Onorato. With both a US Senate race and Governor's race on the ticket, there should be high turnout in the fall, attracting the party-line, straight ticket voters from both parties. In that sense, Corbett is also running against Sestak.

Start out googling "Waste Management" and "mob" or "mafia" so you understand the corporation. Then google "Tom Corbett", "Waste Management" and "Eisenhower". Then google Tom Corbett, campaign contributors and Waste Management.

Here's one thread on the subject which was posted on DU back in 2004, when Corbett was running for AG:

Eisenhower Launches "Toxic Tom" Website (PA, D for Atty Gen.)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: CONTACT:October 27, 2004 Nicholas Pullen 215-545-0224Eisenhower Launches “Toxic Tom” Website to Educate Voters About Corbett’sRecord of Defending PollutersWaste Management Fined Millions of Dollars When Corbett was Senior ExecutivePHILADELPHIA: Democratic Attorney General nominee Jim Eisenhower todayannounced the launch of a new campaign website detailing the record of hisRepublican opponent Tom Corbett defending Waste Management, Inc. (WMI), thelargest importer of trash into Pennsylvania, during his tenure as a seniorexecutive at the company. The release of the new “Toxic Tom” website(www.toxictom.net ) comes days after Corbett began running negative adsattacking Eisenhower and distorting his record. During Corbett’s time at WMI, the firm was repeatedly fined forenvironmental and safety violations – totaling millions of dollars --including the illegal dumping of hazardous medical waste. Corbett has alsoreceived contributions from the trash giant in his Attorney General’scampaign. The new website allows voters to see exactly where WMI wascaught polluting while Corbett was there. Violations occurred across thecommonwealth. Voters can click on a garbage pail to see the details of theviolation and the fine WMI paid. The highlights of Corbett’s tenure at WMI – and his record ofvociferously defending them against infractions – include:o Waste Management racked up at least $3.7 million in fines whileCorbett was there. During Corbett’s four year tenure at Waste Management, the company and its subsidiaries were fined more than $3.7 million forvarious violations at its landfills.o Waste Management found to have the most unsafe trucks of any companyon the road in “Operation Clean Sweep”. In May 2001, the Pennsylvania State Police and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) ran a week-long campaign to crack down on unsafe and environmentally unsound trashtrucks. Of more than 40,000 inspected trucks, the state found more than11,000 safety and environmental violations. The biggest violator -- and the region’s biggest waste hauler -- was Waste Management Inc., with 339 environmental violations and 554 safety violations. The DEP said as much as 65 percent of the Waste Management truck fleet was put off the road forrepairs.

Waste Management caught illegally dumping medical waste. On the first day of “Operation Clean Sweep’, a trailer truck owned by Kephart Trucking was stopped for a safety inspection by state police at the Mifflinville rest area on Interstate 80 in Columbia County. Police noticed a reddish substance leaking from the trailer, opened it and discovered medical waste hidden under a thin layer of municipal waste. The hospital waste -- which included syringes, bedpans and wound dressings -- had been picked up by Kephart at a Waste Management Inc. transfer station in THE BRONX and was headed to Shade Landfill in Central City, Somerset County. That landfill was not permitted to accept raw, unprocessed medical waste. Corbett tried to fight Republican Governor Ridge’s attempts to limit the nation’s wastehaulers. When Republican Governor Tom Ridge attempted to limit the amount of waste coming to Pennsylvania, Corbett – who Ridge hadappointed as chair of PCCD (a post he still held) and as interim-AttorneyGeneral – fought him.

I know all about this, but most voters don't. BTW, Waste Management used to be a Mafia-controlled company. Is it still?

2. Waste Management...bunch of dirtbags
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 08:32 AM by bush_has_to_go
I don't know about the inside operations, but the haulers themselves are assholes. Last winter it wasn't unusual for them to not show up in the area for 2 or 3 WEEKS to pick up garbage (everyone pays individually), and they got really POed when I dumped them for another company. Apparently another bunch of Bushites that don't appreciate it when you don't kiss their feet. Nowadays they come on schedule (neighbors that still use them) but it's like a Walmart operation...empty the trash into the truck and toss the garbage cans wherever they want (bushes, lawn, etc.). The local company we use is LIGHTYEARS better than they ever were (and the price is about the same)
