Gov. Ed Rendell denies affair rumors

Joann Loviglio The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA —

Governor Ed Rendell says rumors that have been circulating about an extramarital affair are not true.

In an advance copy of the Philadelphia magazine article obtained by The Associated Press, the governor and the former beauty queen who works for him say in interviews that they are not romantically involved.

Forty-year-old Kirstin Snow says she's surprised that it took months for the whispers to develop into full-fledged rumors. She says she worries about the gossip hurting the governor's wife, Midge Rendell, and insists that the two have a purely professional relationship.

Rendell tells the magazine that he's never said he's perfect, but he doesn't have extramarital affairs.

The magazine hits newsstands Friday.

7. Political groupies attracted to power?

"I do not have affairs with women and it's really unfair. It's particularly unfair to attractive women," Rendell commented.

Rendell said no one should be surprised that some women are attracted to power, even in government.

"You know, like a lot of people in politics, I get hit on by women all the time. There are political groupies, just like there are sports groupies,"

Does this mean our Gov sees women as "political groupies" who hit on male politicians because we are "attracted to power?"

And why, oh why, is a remark like this somehow not surprising in a state that ranks 46th nationally with only 14.6% women in our legislature, has NEVER had a woman Governor or US Senator, and in 111 Congresses has only ever elected 7 women to the US House?!?

Finally what's this with the "attractive women" remark? It should matter to anyone about anything whether someone is "attractive" or not?

WTF!
