Even weasels deserve marital bliss
Our governor has violated the first rule of marriage. No, not the one about the Appalachian Trail, the one about always supporting your wife's decisions (whether you do or not).

Here's the background, dating back to October in El Paso. It was there that the Texas Historical Commission first heard a plan, generated at the State Preservation Board (chaired by Gov. Rick Perry), to tack a 3,000-square-foot addition onto the Governor's Mansion as part of the reconstruction project necessitated by the June 2008 arson that gutted the building.

Anita Perry, our first lady, made the trip to El Paso to give her seal of approval to the proposal, which goes nowhere without the OK from the Texas Historical Commission.

"I love this house," she told the commission . "This is not about my family. It is not about the Perrys. It is about the future first families."

So there it is. Mrs. Perry is on the record in support of the now-controversial plan to add family space to the reconstructed mansion. The rules of marriage say all that's left for a husband to do is nod agreement.
