Happy Cinco de Mayo, Everybody!
Happy Cinco de Mayo, everybody! Even Texas WASPs can appreciate Texas-born Ignacio de Zaragosa's defeat of a more powerful French army at Puebla on May 5th, 1862.

If bigoted out-of-staters whine about us Texans celebrating the holiday, let us remind them that Texas-born heroes like Dwight Eisenhower and Chester Nimitz also went on to perform their great deeds out-of-state.

Zaragoza was a patriot to his country. He had also fought against Santa Anna aswell.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ignacio_Zaragoza

During the political unrest of the 1850s, Zaragoza joined the army supporting the cause of the Liberal Party, opposing dictator Antonio López de Santa Anna. He commanded an army of volunteers in 1855 that defeated Santa Anna and led to the reestablishment of a constitutional democratic government in Mexico.
