The media certainly let him skate on it during the campaign. It's not like we didn't know about it. Senator Elliott Shapleigh talked about it in January of last year. And several lawmakers have been trying to get the Lege and the Governor to talk about it early. Senator Kirk Watson wanted the budget revenue numbers early last fall from the Comptroller and Perry laughed at the absurdity of the request.

Chances are that Barack Obama will not rescue Rick Perry next session, and on January 1st, 2011, Texas lawmakers will start the budget process with one of the largest deficits since the Great Depression.

Oh Rick Perry wanted to hide the truth for sure, but the media has been his accomplice especially at the national level where Texas still keeps being touted as the model for what other states should be doing.
