Protest at the Capitol Tomorrow at 5:00 - Stop the devastating Republican budget!
I received this today from DFA. I'll be there. I'm taking off work early to go. We need as many people as we can get.

The House is voting tomorrow night (Friday, April 1st)

Please join the rally on the south steps of the Capitol building tomorrow at 5:00pm!

Gov. Perry and the Republicans in the House are trying to ram this budget through so they can pay back their corporate friends - and they don't care if they close schools, shut down state nursing homes, slash college tuition for students and eliminate hundreds of thousands of Texas jobs in the process.

It's up to us to send a clear message to the House that this budget will devastate Texas and we are counting on them to vote against it.

The budget that Governor Perry and Republicans have proposed will devastate Texas.

In this tough economy, the people of Texas can't afford severe cuts to basic services that they rely on - and they can't afford to lose 600,000 jobs as a result of this budget.

We call on you to protect the Texas we know and love and to vote "NO" on H.B. 1.

1. State employees are about to get screwed.
I stand to lose $200 a month AT LEAST if all of the bills pass as currently written. Plus if they switch to high deductible health plan, I will then be paying for health insurance I cannot actually use. FUCK TEXAS AND FUCK REPUBLICANS.

I am leaving this piece of shit state as soon as humanly possible.

3. Yeah I know how you feel
as my spouse is a state employee as well. We've talked about moving before, but with the robust economy and so many jobs available everywhere :sarcasm:, we've decided to hang out for a while. Almost all states are having severe issues right now, where would we go?

7. Definitely a problem.
But I want to live in a blue state for sure; it will be worth the hardship not to have to deal with so many right-wingers.

8. Here's another list of protests for 4/1:
April 1, 2011 (Friday): DON’T WRECK TEXAS’ FUTURE!

April 1st is the day the house will vote on House Bill 1. HB 1 is the proposed 2012-2013 budget that closes schools, hikes college tuition, eliminates Pre-K programs, leaves senior citizens homeless, devastates community-based services for people with disabilities, and will ultimately leave 335,000 Texans jobless. Eventually, this will lead to a reversal of our state’s economic recovery.

Be prepared for a very long day of rallying because Representatives start to debate on the floor at 8:30am and they could run until 3:00am. We will be there until the budget is either passed or defeated. A group of concerned organizations (Texas Impact, CPPP, ADAPT, CTD, Community NOW!, Take Back Texas Coalition, Sierra Club, Criminal Justice Coalition of Texas, and many others concerned Texans) has planned to hold a lightning round of rallies for the whole day! The day will begin at the south steps of the Capitol from 12:00pm. Just remember, the message is quite simple: Vote NO on HB 1 and get to work on a plan that reflects Texans’ priorities!

Below is a tentative schedule for Friday, April 1st:

12:00-1:00pm - Introduction/Overview of issues
1:00-2:00pm - Funeral to state services, Take Back Texas
2:00-4:00pm - Health and Human Services
4:00-5:00pm - Environmental
5:00-7:00pm - Public Education/ Higher Education
7:00-7:30pm - Funeral enters Capital
7:30-9:30pm - Night Light Report, Candlelight vigil

Come Early Stay Late Wear Black

For more information on the event or to sign up for a 20-minute time slot in the House Chapel during the concurrent prayer vigil, call Texas Impact at 512-472-3903 or e-mail Bee Moorehead at bee@texasimpact.org.
