ONLY televised debate Sunday 10/9 at 7 PM Sabato to moderate
This is funny. Kilgore doesn't want to debate at all (looking for a way out completely) and is also trying to blame Kaine for his own rule change demands. See the redstate.org article below. Also-in the debate that Tim Russert moderated (and Kilgore got laughed at) Kaine went across the hall to debate Potts, Kilgore won't let him on stage.

Gubernatorial debate set for Sunday

The deadline for a decision is 10 a.m. today, when the two sides are to conduct a debate walk-through at the studios of NBC 12 in Richmond. That's where the debate will be Sunday at 7 p.m. That station and the University of Virginia Center for Politics are the sponsors. U.Va. professor and political analyst Larry Sabato will moderate it. WAVY-TV, Channel 10 is to broadcast the debate in Hampton Roads.

Kaine spokeswoman Delacey Skinner said the insistence on a no-use agreement is a last-minute change and reflects Kilgore's unwillingness and unease at debating. She cited copyright laws as sufficient. "There is already adequate protection of what they're concerned about," she said.

The Kilgore camp is concerned that Kaine could air a TV ad using debate footage, and that by the time a court fight ensues, it would be too late. If Kaine truly wants to avoid using debate footage in his ads, he should have no problem signing the no-use agreement, even if he thinks it is redundant, the Kilgore campaign says.

It's a tough job: Running for governor while running from the debate

Unscripted, spontaneous expressions of opinion - that is, getting up and explaining why you believe what you believe - are simply not a Kilgore specialty. The Kilgore posture appears to be this: He wants to be governor and has considerable public support for realizing that ambition, but do we really have to talk about it?

So, now, having seen their behind-the-scenes maneuverings flushed out into the open, the Kilgore crew has been trying to blame their opponent, Tim Kaine.
