Hero girl, 8, raises fire alarm
Source: BBC

Chloe McCourt was staying with her grandparents
---------

An eight-year-old girl who raised the alarm about a house fire on Sunday has been hailed a hero by firefighters.

Chloe McCourt was staying with her grandparents in Londonderry when she spotted the fire in a neighbouring house at 0720 GMT on Sunday.

"I went into the living room and opened the curtains and saw a fire across the street. I was shouting to my granny, 'there's a fire, there's a fire'. "Five fire engine men came over to me to say there's no doubt I saved them."

Teresa Kelly and her 75-year-old husband Dermot managed to escape the blaze at their Sutton Gardens home.

1. House fires seem to be a big danger in the UK.
A UK radio station I listen to online has PSAs about fire safety running all the time.

2. I think a lot of houses are attached.

5. That's what people tend to do in the morning ...

... 07:20 GMT is early for a Sunday (for me!) but, as she was up, it was a
perfectly natural thing to do ...

(ETA: Didn't realise I was talking to the dead but the above still applies.)
