Let's Discuss "Sammy's House" by Kristin Gore (warning: spoiler included)
For thhose who have finished reading "Sammy's House" by Kristin Gore, what are your thoughts?

I just finished it last night, and tremendously enjoyed the book. I thought it was a great follow-up to "Sammy's Hill."

Kristin Gore is a terrific writer, and I often found myself laughing out loud at many of the passages in the book.

My only disappointment, is with the ending of the book. I felt like with the way she ended the book, it left several questions (for me, at least). Of course, towards the end of the book, President Wye resigns, and obviously R.G. becomes President. He then offers Sammy the position of Deputy Chief of Staff; one that she is not certain she will take him up on.

And Charlie proposes to her.

I was disappointed that the book ended that way, because I would have liked to known 1) did she eventually accept R.G.'s offer as his Deputy Chief of Staff and 2) did she and Charlie actually make it down the aisle?

I definitely would have liked to seen one more chapter in the book, which would have answered these questions.

Thoughts anyone?

1. I loved the book

but I liked Sammy's Hill better than this one - It was a little less formulaic - I found this one to be a little too predictable - I still loved reading it and I ate it up in a couple of days. I wasn't crazy about the ending either - of course I usually have a hard time agreeing with the end of most books.

2. Really? You found it predictable?
I didn't find it that predictable. Just the opposite, as a matter of fact.

I was really shocked when President Wye resigned. I'm not exactly sure what I expected to happen to him, but I really wasn't anticipating him resigning.

And I wasn't expecting Sammy's mother to be ok with Charlie staying over, when Sammy's parents surprised her and showed up at her house for Thanksgiving.

3. It was a while ago I read it
But I remember I wasn't as impressed or excited about it as I was when reading Sammy's Hill - I mean Sammy's Hill was funny and unpredictable down to the last line of the book - the Blackberry had the last word and I closed the book laughing out loud and sad that the book had ended.

This book did not impress me the same way.

Did you read Sammy's Hill? Did you like this one better?

4. Yes, I read Sammy Hill's back when it came out
And you're absolutely right that it was downright funny and unpredictable. When she sent that x-rated message (intended for her boyfriend only) to other people in her address book on her Blackberry, I was too through! It was hilarious.

Like you, I think I enjoyed "Sammy's Hill" somewhat better. Don't get me wrong; I enjoyed "Sammy's House," but it wasn't as totally captivating as the first novel.

For me, it really picked up the pace towards the end, as President Wye just continued to dig himself deeper into his mess.

5. Yes I agree

And I still love the character of Sammy - I guess I want to live vicariously through the characters I read about sometimes and the end of the book - kind of felt like an end of the Sammy that I would love to be and work along side in DC.

It might be stifling the development of the character to keep her busy and clumsy etc. But I enjoy reading that. Not sure if Kristen Gore can go anywhere with the character from here and keep it interesting and funny at the same time. Which, selfishly, makes me sad :( because I enjoyed the character so much.
