Am I the ONLY loser who just now discovered "Outlander" (and Jamie Fraser)?
OMG! I cannot believe I have completely missed this series. I HATE romance and historical fiction novels, but this is a truly wonderful sci-fi type time-shifting novel. Read Outlander over the weekend and I'm now on Dragonfly in Amber.

1. Say goodbye to all of your free time in the near future.
;) I also hate romance and historical fiction and devoured these. I still need to read the latest one, but I've been rereading all the others for years.

3. Who should play Jamie in a movie of the novel?
Some co-workers and I were discussing. I couldn't think of a single person young enough and of the right physical size.

11. You didn't hear this from me, but...
there are a slew of YouTube videos dedicated to this very topic. Most seem to favor Gerard Butler.

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_Ao5p0Qkzo

I have no idea how I fell upon this fact!

17. Hmmm.....that guy wasn't the Jamie in my mind.
He wasn't big and muscular enough, and where is the fire red hair? How could one even consider an actor to be Jamie without blazing red hair? Auburn isn't going to cut it.

5. Yes. Yes you are.
Good luck finding time to do anything else now that you've tripped over Jamie.

6. I'm listening to it on tape now cuz I can't get my books back . . .
from a friend. I have to re-read the series every couple of years to get my Jamie fix.

16. They have them at Audible.
I read the series as each book came out and then recently found most of them on Audible and listened to them all. :) I can't wait for the next in the series to come out. That's the only problem, she takes a long time between each book. By the time it comes out, you forget what was going on when you left off on the last one.

7. Oh, no, there are a lot of us out here who wish we were Claire herself.....
In my next life I want to marry Jamie Fraser.

8. I just found them a few months ago
and am now on the third one. I'm with you, I can't believe how good these books are! I thoroughly enjoy her writing... her love scenes are among the best I've read - so evocative without being pornographic or even very explicit.

Ah, to have a love ahd a relationship like Claire & Jamie's! In my dreams...

13. I also love the fact that they take me longer than three hours to read
I read very very fast, and it's hard to find anything that takes more than a few hours to read. It actually takes me a couple of days or so to read one of the Outlander books! (And I'm definitely not saying the fast reading is a GOOD thing.)

9. Happy reading and say goodbye to real life.
I too hate romance novels and was never turned on to historical fiction until this series. In fact it started me on the path to writing my first novel. Enjoy and come back and tell us about your 3rd reading of the series. :)

12. Wow! What a wonderful journey you're on.
Good luck with your novel. The Wikipedia article on Diane Gabaldon said she decided to write Outlander to practice writing a novel, to find out how it's done. Maybe you'll experience that type of magic with your writing.

14. Thanks for the encouragement
Another series you might enjoy is George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. A Game of Thrones is the first in the series. I refer to it as Lord of the Rings for adults.

10. Interesting tidbit...
one of the characters in the series makes an appearance in Sara Donati's book, "Into the Wilderness." There is also mention of another character.

15. Enjoy!
I really think the attraction is all about Jamie Fraser and time travel; Claire herself is not that interesting.

20. Wonderful writing!
Fascinating premise -- a woman accidentally walks through a sort of a time warp (where the crust of time is thin?) from 1945 Scotland to 1743 Scotland. Historical fiction (very well written) with time travel as its central premise.

21. I just picked this up when Outlander was a free book on Kindle, and I'm having trouble
slogging through to get to the point where she actually goes back in time. IDK, Claire just bores me.
