William Blum's "Freeing the World to Death" - highly recommended
When I read this blurb on the back of the book, I knew it was going to be a good read:

"If I were the president, I could stop terrorist attacks against the United States in a few days. Permanently. I would first apologize to all the widows and orphans, the tortured and impoverished, and all the many millions of other victims of American imperialism. Then I would announce, in all sincerity, to every corner of the world, that America's global interventions have come to an end, and inform Israel that it is no longer the 51st state of the USA but now -- oddly enough -- a foreign country. I would then reduce the military budget by at least 90% and use the savings to pay reparations to the victims. There would be more than enough money. One year's military budget of 330 billion dollars is equal to more than $18,000 an hour for every hour since Jesus Christ was born. That's what I'd do on my first three days in the White House. On the fourth day, I'd be assassinated."

- William Blum

This book is a delight to read. It's packed with facts and observations that seem so obvious it amazes one that they were missed by the corporate media. It is full of wit and irony. It is broken into very short pieces so it is easy to read even if you are busy and don't have time to read long tomes.

William Blum belongs to the "core curriculum" of radical critics of US Policy. Other writers I include in this must-read "core" group are:

Noam Chomsky
Michael Parenti
Greg Palast
William Boyer
Howard Zinn
John Pilger

1. To Borrow from the Limbots
Ditto...

If I were President, I wouldn't make it past the first 90 days either. But oh, what I could do in 90 days...

2. It sounds interesting!
I'd vote for him! What we need is someone who's main interest is in fixing things 'for the people' not the corporations & someone who wants to do their job & not just try to get re-elected.

Please consider nominating this title for the July Book Club.
