Patricia Heaton Says Her Politics Have Cost Her Possible Roles
When you work in a culture that doesn’t share many of your views, you can probably expect a little backlash.

Actress Patricia Heaton, who played Debra Barone in the smash hit “Everybody Loves Raymond,” certainly knows how that feels. She is a conservative Christian who has spoken out against embryonic stem-cell research and who is pro-life, which puts her at odds with many people in the acting industry.

But recently she told a writer for the AOL blog PopEater that she doesn’t worry about it.

“My feeling is all these things come from God and as long as I know I’m staying in line with Him, I don’t have to worry if there is backlash,” she said. “God will open any doors he wants to open and if He closes doors that’s fine too.”

Heaton stars in the ABC hit sitcom, “The Middle,” which currently runs head-to-head against "American Idol." The most recent TV ratings show that it ranks second behind AI, and ahead of “Criminal Minds,” “Minute to Win It” and "America’s Next Top Model."

(Not buying it, sorry; I'm sure there are plenty of lefties in HWood who go through day after day of the phone not ringing, what's their excuse?)

2. Not buying it either
While it appears that most Hollywood types are liberals, the majority of people making the big decisions (especially producers, studio heads, etc.) are business folks who tend to lean towards the conservative side.

Plus, there's a lot of very successful actors and movie stars who have solid (and sometimes outspoken) conservative credentials. Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper, Kevin Costner and Bruce Willis to name a few. Let's not forget our recently disgraced former Governor of California as well (who was all set to resume his movie career before his baby daddy antics came to light).

4. Cult of Victimology.
If you ask me, she's had much more success than her talent warrants. Maybe that's what she should be thankful for.

6. I remember Bo Derek claiming she was blacklisted for being conservative.
No Bo. You got about five years older and the only talent you ever had wasn't quite a "10" anymore.

8. And what makes you special? There are many liberals who stay quiet to avoid the acrimony at the work
workplace. In fact, most Americans, by far, consider themselves moderate to liberal, even the Christians. They just don't vote as much as conservatives because they don't have ad campaigns that scare them to death if they DON'T vote. They're just too cleaver for that ruse.

And what about gay people, who often find themselves in homophobic environs at work, at church, and elsewhere? Are you more unique than them? No...you just have fame, which makes you part of the "scare them to death" ad campaign that sets so many conservatives on fire around elections and such. In fact, there's a lot of money in it via Koch Industries and many more like them.

Wait a minute. It's not possible that you're putting out this public statement of how uncomfortable you are at work to get some money for yourself, is it?

I have an idea. You stick to acting, which apparently you're pretty good at, instead of making all of your co-workers sound like violent haters.

Peace

11. Everybody's always out to get them
That's why Conservative Christians are so special.

All too often they are arrogant people who are difficult to even be in the same room with.

14. The way it used to be was to...
keep your religious views to yourself and your fellow like minded believers. We don't give a shit and sure as hell don't want to be converted!

That also applies to sports figures who feel that god likes their team best.

We can discuss stem cell research but if your argument against is based on scripture, we're done.

It's time to realize that wasting time on religion is a roadblock to evolving as a race. Why is it that the Bible Belt is being devastated? Location, and all the praying can't change that.

Keep it to yourself!
