Texas A&M is about to change the college football world... |
|
..and looks like nothing to stop them. Just to get away from the absolute piece of shit Longhorns. The SEC takes #13 then #14 is sure to follow. Then we have super-conferences. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6859792/texas-aggies-expected-departure-brings-us-back-brink

1. I was wondering if you were going to post about realignment, condem |
|
I thought about posting a few links over the last couple of days, but it really seemed more appropriate to wait for you :)
Latest rumors I hear have SEC bumping up to 16 teams -- apparently Missouri has said they're staying put, but I've heard their name mentioned along with Clemson, Florida State, and Virginia Tech. Also Oklahoma, although I think OU would rather (a) keep some corpse of the Big 12 together or (b) go to the Pac 1x.

The whole Gottlieb deal has me flummoxed. The SEC is not going to take just anyone. Adding A&M is genius. It's all about the TV sets. Cynical, I know. But you have at least 2 million viewers in Tejas for A&M. Fuck Texas. Fuck Clemson, FSU and VT. Take Oklahoma and you wrap up the national title for the next ten years. The Big 12 is dead and every other conference has to scramble. What does the Big Ten get? Fucking Notre Dame?

3. Oklahoma brings a good on-field product, but not as much in the way of TV sets |
|
That's OU's problem. They're a national brand, to be sure, but don't have the weight of a Texas. Truth is, A&M doesn't either. They don't pull as much of the Texas market as UT would, quite simply.
I don't see what A&M hopes to achieve, aside from independence from Texas. They've won one conference title in the history of the Big XII, and that was years ago, before Stoops arrived and when Brown was in his first year. They haven't won a division title since Stoops arrived. They'll get some cash from the SEC, I suppose, but I don't see them improving their program significantly.
I agree the Big 12 is dead--if not this year than very soon. I have full confidence that OU will land on its feet, but I wonder about some of the others in the league--Kansas, KSU, and Iowa State don't have much power to wield here, and OSU/T-Tech's best assets are assumption that their in-state brethren won't leave them cold ...

5. Will A&M's move to the SEC improve their recruitment prospects |
|
in Texas? I'm not sure, but I suspect being in the SEC will help them recruiting. If their real concern was not being able to get past Texas and Oklahoma, the SEC isn't going to be any kinder to them.

7. Again, I hate to be cynical, but this move is about the $$. |
|
The Big Ten Network has changed the landscape of college football. When A&M sees what a gold mine like Indiana is making for being a sub-par football program, it boggles the mind. The SEC is equal sharing. The Big 12 with hideous Texas will NEVER be. Mike Slive said at the SEC media daze that he can "get four schools in fifteen minutes". We may be about to find that out. If the SEC makes the move, the other conferences will not sit still.

4. Let's say that the SEC hooks up with A&M and Oklahoma... |
|
How do they divvy up the conference? Geographically, it would make sense to bump both the Alabama teams to the East, with OU and A&M in the West. That would be kind of a sweet deal for OU-- there would be LSU and Arkansas to contend with, of course, but the East would be brutal, with Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee in the same division. I really don't think that will fly. If they go to 16 teams, though, by adding, say, Florida State and maybe Virginia Tech to the East and OK and A&M to the West-- well, that might be interesting.

Then apply to the SEC. http://eye-on-collegefootball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/31318268 The A&M Regents are still meeting tomorrow. This whole deal isn't done by a longshot. According to another CBS report, Oklahoma and three other Big 12 schools approached the Big Ten about a mass transfer a couple days ago. Because of the Big Ten's AAU status it was not OK. The bottom line is this. Texas has caused a major rift in the Big 12. It's more than obvious that more than a couple want out of the Longhorn shadow.

..though I highly doubt that ignorant hayseed you call a coach is clean. It's all about the greed. Televising HS games on the network was just one of the problems. A school has to be desperate to want to leave the Big 12 to go to the SEC where they will be lower tier. But can't blame A&M for giving it the ol' College Station try.

we got Tastykake in MD when I was growing up. There's even an ersatz Philly* cheesesteak place in San Jose that has them!
Crumpets are basically the original English muffins, with nooks and crannies and whatnot, only smaller than what we're used to.
