Some robo caller called me abt Gay Marriage tonight. |
|
Whoever was "the voice" for the survey had a Southern accent. Which I don't hear much any more, as I live in Northern California.
The first question presented was the issue of whether I felt that it was a good thing to expose and educate children "as young as kindergartners" to discussions of various lifestyle choices and different sexual preferences.
It was obvious that the question was framed to make a person being surveyed feel as abhorrent on the issue as possible.
I choose to say even young children should learn about sexual preferences and different life styles.
Then the survey wanted to know how I felt about people "other than a man and a woman" having the right to marry.
I said that I felt that men probably shouldn't be allowed to marry, as I have lived with the same man for 22 years, and he isn't able to listen very often, and marriage requires good listening skills. Admittedly, this answer came from spending far too much time over this past weekend with my close girl friends, with all of us us pondering the evidence that men simply aren't able to listen. (or at least, most straight men aren't.)
Both the spouse and I have been chuckling over how the Southern group that put together this survey will react when hearing my answers. Whether some demented form of the KKK will show up after driving here from Sacramento remains to be seen.
You'd think that people had something better to do than bother with surveying people about this issue. The tide has turned, and especially in California, people of every sexual preference will be marrying one another, especially since real surveys show that the up and coming generations are much more tolerant than their elders are.
(I personally thin that the Prop Eight results were the result of tainted voting equipment, programmed to come up with the answer that the "Christian" Right, which ain't Christian and ain't right, managed to finagle.

1. I'm so sick of inbred hillbillies like that |
|
You should have said you'd prefer it if Southerners weren't allowed to marry, because it's dangerous for rednecks to reproduce.

I was push polled on marriage equality once. I responded I had no problem with two people of the same gender getting married but I sure hoped anyone stupid and mean enough to participate in a rigged questionnaire designed to foster hatred and ignorance would do us all the favor of remaining child free. Granted, not one of my more tolerant moments but we all have our limits.

I don't think anyone should have to "tolerate" hatred!
Tell it like it is!

7. Now, now, now, dear :) |

I'm southern, take no shame in being a hillbilly, and queer as hell. Been living with the same wonderful man for 15 years now. Well, having extensively studied my genealogy, I can admit not to being inbred.
Oh, I'd love to get one of those robocalls. They ain't ready for me *LOL*
Just go easy on the epithets, k?

2. We have a voting problem in Los Angeles County. |
|
And until we fix it, we're at risk because we can't win without it.

12. Well surely if we ever get a Dem majority in the House, |
|
And a Democratic President in the WH, that will all be taken care of.
Right?

3. Interesting experience... Good thing that they called you, LOL. |

If the voice had a southern accident, I wonder if this survey is taking place in other areas. I don't get these very often, but I have gotten a live person a couple of times. I'm always thrilled to be asked to take part in a political survey, since I'm usually irritated when I hear the results of these things. I once got what sounded like a young kid asking questions about my opinions on the congressional race here in NY-20. He was from some far away state and he thanked me profusely for answering his questions, said most people hang up on him... :eyes: :hi:

Rainy day :toast: from me to you.
Take your beverage of choice - I have hot cocoa, gin and tonic, coke (with cherry) and cider.
And some homemade bread just popped out of my oven, as well! (Corn flour, millet, rice flour, flaxseed meal, honey, and slathered with butter.)

6. It wasn't a real survey. It was a push poll designed to influence your opinion. |
|
In California, bigots are trying to get enough signatures to get another anti-gay proposition on the ballot. This one would make it illegal to tell students that historical figures were gay. It looks like they will get enough signatures to get this on the ballot, because they've been misrepresenting the forms as anti-child molester petitions.
Your responses to the questions weren't collected and will never be counted or reported. The push poll was just to get you upset about gay rights and make you go out and vote against them.

8. Just one thing - it isn't a "preference" - that plays into them framing it as choice |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-05-11 10:03 AM by BR_Parkway
which most of will tell you wasn't something we chose. Orientation is a better word.
Preference is who I choose to take to my bed and what all we decide to do while we're there, same as str8 folks. Orientation is about who the person is

11. Thank you for pointing that out. |
|
It is extremely important to the discussion.
It was 8:45 Pm when the robo caller called - and perhaps I would have caught that incorrect framing of the issues if it hadn't been the end of a long day.

10. yes, listen to the words they use |
|
right wing haters use "preference" instead of orientation also "lifestyle" and "homosexual" always, instead of gay
as far as "exposing kindergartners" to ideas, what does it do to their fragile little minds to show them a man nailed to a cross, and telling them they are born sinners and deserve to burn in hell forever if they don't do what they are told
