Vial of blood may link Ted Bundy to multiple cold cases
(CNN) -- Notorious serial killer Ted Bundy confessed to more than 30 murders before he was sent to Florida's electric chair in 1989, but experts have always believed there were more.

Now, investigators across the country are hoping a vial of Bundy's blood -- kept as part of a case record -- will prove or disprove his involvement in cold cases dating as far back as 1961.

Bundy's blood, recovered from an evidence lab in Columbia County, Florida, will be entered into the FBI's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) on Friday. Investigators say it's a major milestone in a decades-long search for evidence to complete the killer's profile.

A reopened 1961 cold case involving a missing 8-year-old girl in Tacoma, Washington, was the impetus for the completed DNA profile. The girl lived along a newspaper route that the then-teenager Bundy worked, according to published accounts.

2. I stayed at VAil-Snowmass Resort in CO a few years back & met the
maintenance guy who was there then and had several interactions with Bundy before the discovery of resort guest Caryn Campbell's body a month later.

I would not have really made the connection but had accompanied him back to his office to get replacement electrical equipment for a presentation I needed to make and there on his desk was a picture of Bundy. 'Sort of freaked me out a bit, but I just sort of jokingly pointed to it and said "he looked quite familiar"... It obviously haunts him to this day... Here's a bit of the history...

On Jan. 12, 1975, a 23-year-old registered nurse named Caryn Campbell decided to retrieve a magazine from her room in the Wildwood Inn at Snowmass.

Campbell and Cunningham could have been sisters, they looked so much alike.

Campbell's fiancée watched her enter the elevator in the hotel's lobby; friends saw her emerge from it upstairs.

She vanished somewhere along a well-lit hallway between the elevator and her room. Her nude body was found a month later next to a dirt road just outside Snowmass. Bundy had beaten her to death.

Bundy escaped from the Garfield County jail before the trial concluded. He stole a car in Glenwood Springs, and when it broke down in Edwards he hitched a ride into Vail were he spent the night in a hotel lobby. The next day he got on a bus that eventually took him to Jacksonville, Fla. He committed several more murders in Florida before his final arrest in 1978.

3. James Dobson of Fungus on the Family
interviewed Bundy on death row, and Bundy played him like a cheap fiddle. Suggested that all his crimes were a result of viewing pornography, and Dobson just ate it up.

5. Bundy is proof that the Death Penalty is not a deterrent to capital crime.
Ted Bundy called a newspaper reporter and asked him what states still had the Death Penalty.....After being told that Florida still had the Death Penalty, Bundy then went there and kidnapped & killed his last victim...a 12 year old girl.
