Paganism ban stirs outcry

Paganism ruling stirs outcry

A court order prohibiting a Marion County father and his ex-wife from exposing their son to "non-mainstream religious beliefs" is likely to be reversed, legal experts said Thursday.

However, publicity about the divorce case could help better educate people about Wicca, a contemporary pagan religion, said Andrew Koppelman, a Northwestern University law professor.

"This case has got to be reversed, given the lack of explanation by the judge. It would be bad enough if he had singled out Wicca, but he has phrased it in such broad terms there's an argument the child could not be allowed to attend Jewish or Muslim services."

edit ...
"This decision should be frightening to people of any faith, because who decides what's mainstream?" said Donna Bays, chairwoman of the Family Law Section of the Indiana State Bar Association. "I have never seen a judge put anything like that in any order involving parties who were in agreement. "

1. from the quasi-atheist
This is a disgusting, outrageous, repugnant decision. I encourage our pagan friends to fight this cultural imperialism tooth and nail and know we are with you.

5. We are
From the same article:
Debate swirled in pagan religious circles locally and nationally after The Indianapolis Star reported on the case Thursday. Jones, 37, said he posted messages on two Web sites Thursday in an attempt to keep pagans from sending e-mail and letters of protest to Bradford.

I just wondering if the Judge is experiencing any recent hair loss, new warts or increased body order? It's not nice to mess with Mother Earth lovers.

2. Thanks for posting this critical issue...
Those of us who practice non-mainstream religions and spiritualities must band together. I will not be Christianized by anyone. Nor will I be forced to practice any other religion because of government pressure.

ALL PEOPLE, WHETHER RELIGIOUS OR NOT, MUST SEE THE DANGER IN THIS.

4. Activist judges
Of course, Christians think this kind of thing is fine since we're all godless liberals anyways.

Any Christians here, explain to me (been annoyed by Christians lately), why does the Bible promote death, anti-science, anti-technology, pro-war, and removes freedom of independant thought?

6. I don't think the Bible does promote those things.
I think certain groups of people who want to promote those things cherry-pick verses that support their way of thinking. Much like the cherry-picked intelligence that was used to justify this illegal war.

7. So
Any Christian that gives up free will and intellect is against God as I see it? I can't understand why these people would give up their human qualities for a minister.

8. I really think there is a form of mental illness at work in these
cult of personality "Christian" churches. Power hungry leaders prey on those who are very needy or very gullible and everybody is happy. For a while. There was a good thread a while back about this on the national level.
