Not much room for grey area in that question. Obviously some would have, and some wouldn't have. There are plenty of strong quotes out there from the founding fathers that show some of them thought religion had a place in government and some thought it didn't. Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and certainly Thomas Paine were for a strong separation between the two.

5. And yet, look at the symbolism on paper money. |
|
Or was that past founding parents time?

7. And just what is the religious significance of the all-seeing eye |

and the pyramid, to Christians?
I don't know what the earliest paper had on it, but the motto of "E Pluribus Unum" predates "In God We Trust" by more than a hundred years. IGWT wasn't used on any currency before the 1862 2cent piece and wasn't put on all currency until, I believe, 1954.
ON EDIT
You'd think that a poll of history buffs would better reflect reality.
EDIT AGAIN
The paper on the siege of Jerusalem at that site is fascinating.

9. A lot of history buffs are into war history |
|
and not really into the political and social issues that either surround the wars or occur without war. So, those folks could easily ignore the reality of our history.

I have a co-worker who can disect every battle of the Civil War and point out exactly what minor change would have given the battle, and the war, to the south; a result he seems to devoutly wish for.
Not a clue as to what started the war, what the war was about, or what the country would be like now if the south had won.
Needless to say, he's a virulent pro-bush freeper.

15. I don't think the poster asked about specific religions. |
|
Or did I misread the thread?

but we still shouldn't let the black & white of the question obliterate the fact that our Founders fled state-imposed religion and I don't think the majority of them would be pleased with the current state of affairs.
And, welcome to DU! :hi:

go a different route so that they don't know where I've been.
I'm trying to understand why the yes percentage is so high.
Since when is real history an interest of the devout ?
