there are so many scandals, i cannot keep up with who to avoid. The poor and almost-poor can easily be wiped out by ONE mean trick from a CC company.
So, pls tell me of any financial type of companies ,
that have a good reputation?
I not concerned so much with good politics from them, as with treating customers honestly.
i am that desperate to find an honest CC etc etc. LOL
thank you bunches! and bunches!

They're a scam. Sure you can pay them off every month now. However, you're one illness, lost job, or other catastrophe away from falling behind and getting socked with high interest and junk fees as you watch the debt pile up. Everybody drowning in credit card debt started off by paying them off every month. Cut them up and throw them away. Cancel those puppies and tell the companies you can get a better deal from a loan shark. You can, you know.
As for other financial services, credit unions are relatively untainted. Mergers and megamergers have put banking, insurance, and stock brokerages under the same corporate management in a lot of cases, so you're just patronizing McFinance if you try to use a big brand name company.

You have to have one card. There are things you literally can't do without a credit card.
Sad, but true. I wish someone would open a credit card company that deals honestly with people. I'd chop up all my cards and get one of theirs in a heart beat.
On edit: The only way to come out ahead of the game as the rules are now is to pay off your balance every month. Do it right after you get the statement. They don't give you much time before they consider you late and hit you with a huge fee. Criminals

5. What unavoidable purchases require a credit card? |
|
You can perform nearly all electronic transactions with a debit card. (You might argue that is a limited form of credit, since you can spend more than you have with the bank dunning you.)
The only credit necessary transaction I know of is car rentals, which might just be an esoteric rule the major players have. Regardless, that can be avoided with taxis, public transportation, friends and family, or hitching.
Others?

6. Pay a dollar more than you owe.. |
|
I don't know if it does anything more than serve my own perverted sense of humor, but knowing that the CC company actually owes *ME* money is a good feeling. :-)

www.sharebuilder.com
I don't know anything about stockbrokers, but Costco refered me to sharebuilder when I wanted to buy some of their stock.

They work FOR you, instead of trying to steal your money in nefarious ways. They usually have their own credit cards with pretty low interest, and you don't have to worry about them delaying payments, or charging ridiculous fees.

A CC from a CU is the way to go. I have had one since I was 18 and they have never done me wrong.
