If Pigs Could Fly (*Warning: Heart Wrenching*)... |
|
Edited on Tue May-30-06 12:46 AM by Robeson
...This, just makes me cry... Excerpt: "We would be hypocrites to continue to turn a blind eye to such practices. We are quick to condemn seal clubbing in Canada and dog farming in northern China, but seem content to ignore this far more barbaric practice, to creatures whose emotional and intelligence levels are at least as high as that of dogs and seals."http://www.theage.com.au/news/business/if-pigs-could-fly-theyd-be-after-some-space/2006/05/01/1146335670557.html?page=2

But all too many people don't care. While they would be sick and appaled if they discovered the slab of meat on their plate was human, it doesn't phase them that a "lesser" animal suffered and died so they could feast.

3. Oh, I know you're right. It seems alot of people aren't intelligent. |
|
...enough to even know what a disconnect is. Much less, that they are having one.

4. There was another PETA bashing thread recently |
|
Either in GD or the Lounge. Several people made the usual comments along the lines that it's ok to slaughter and eat chickens because they are so "dumb". I didn't bother to reply that regardless of how "dumb" they seem to be they still feel pain. It wouldn't have mattered.

7. But , of course, regarding pigs... |
|
they aren't dumb. They are as smart and social as dogs, maybe more so.
So, even if being "dumb" were a justification (and it isn't) it doesn't apply to hog farming.

My friends in Iowa know about this issue, but I'm amazed how few here in urban American have any idea where their food comes from. They seem to think meat grows on trees in the back room at the Jewel. So, I'm e-mailing this article to several people here.
It makes me sick!

There is the disconnect. I can't say it often enough...it's based in selfishness. I LIKE bacon so I don't care about the pig. I have no intention of eating a dog, so I can turn a blind eye.
Ego disproves ID. That's all I'm going to say on that.
Great article, though, Robeson, thank you!
