Bay Area folks- Rainbow now has both Cheddar and Italian-style Daiya
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 05:07 AM by LeftyMom
The Italian is good, but the Cheddar is much, much better. I just ate a quesedilla and two grilled cheese sandwiches. :D

edit: If you ask them nicely, they'll get you a 5# bag out of the back. 15% case discount! :D

2. Pardon my ignorance....
but I am assuming Daiya is a dairy free cheese?? My husband & I are starting down the path to vegetarianism and as much as we LOVE cheese,(the only reason we could see not becoming vegans), I would love to try as many alternatives out there as possible.

Also I recently moved back to the Bay area so I am not familiar with Rainbow. Is it a kind of grocery store?

TIA for your reply :hi:

3. It is a dairy-free cheese.
Rainbow is a worker-owned cooperative vegetarian grocery in San Francisco. http://www.rainbowgrocery.org/ They have quite a few hard to find vegan items, including a very good selection of vegan cheeses. It's totally worth a visit.

5. They have several other really good vegan cheeses as well.
They're all right in the same little area of shelving in the middle of the cheese section.

6. Gorgonzola was my beast to tame.
I still crave it. I used to put it on sandwiches, in salads, you name it. I made a heavenly noodle dish with it.

Follow Your Heart & Veganrella are the only vegan cheeses in my area & both are pretty bad.

I make my own vegan 'parm' & it's good.

7. Damn you!
I thought I'd finally tamed that beast...until you mentioned it.

Now I'll have to make a Fettuccini al Gorgonzola for my wife and inhate DEEPLY while cooking. ;)
