Playing with Oneiric Ocelot Beta 1 (ubuntu 11.10)
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/oneiric/beta-1/

Having fun. Its using firefox 7 and thunderbird 7 beta's of course.
This is definitely a beta and shouldn't be used for anything except play such as I'm doing but I can see it could be appealing to some when they're finished with it.

Just thought I'd let u'ns know :-)
peace

1. Firefox 7?
I just checked, and I'm using Firefox 3.6.

How did it get up to 7 already?

Are there major differences reflecting the 2.4 version jump?

2. A lot of changes have been made since 3.6
Security is where most of the changes have been best I can tell but its been so long since I used 3.6 I can't remember much about it. I know that the interface has changed since then.

Here's a link to the 'getting started' page for firefox 6 that will do a much better job of explaining the differences than I could. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/central/

Heres a link to the release schedule for both firefox and thunderbird. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases

If I remember correctly thunderbird added tabs with release 5, if you use thunderbird that is.

But it has had tabs for a good while, now.

I don't understand. Maybe Ubuntu tinkers with the version numbers, or something?

EDIT: But you're using Ubuntu too, just several versions ahead of me. I don't know.

???

4. My bad, I mis-remembered when thunderbird came out with tabs
Both thunderbird and firefox upgraded this morning to 6.0.2

5. They're trying to catch up to IE in # of revisions
4.0 released March 22, 2011
5.0 released June 21, 2011
6.0 released August 16, 2011

There is also talk of Firefox doing away with versions altogether and just managing everything through updates which I think would be a bit of a mess for those who write add-ons.
