Can I buy a new battery for my laptop that will actually work? |
|
The batter I have now had never held a charge for more than a couple hours. Now it is down to minutes and my chord is loose so my computer keeps shutting itself down, of course not the right way so I have to tell it to turn windows on normally and I end up with disk problems.
Sooooooooooo the battery I have is for HP Pavilion Entertainment PC and it has a few numbers directly on the battery itself.
Any advise on how to go about getting another one, (like where? for a decent now inflated price). Or anything else I need to know?
Thanks in advance,
Maraya

1. Try a Google products search. Look at Amazon too. Check out Newegg. |
|
Sometimes products can be obtained retail from the original manufacturer's website. You might start by googling your exact laptop model with the word battery; you might also try googling the sequence of numbers you find on the battery
I'll often read the Amazon and Newegg consumer reviews (if there are any), since it gives some idea what people are saying. If you're considering buying from a small company, see what experiences other people have with them: Amazon gives such information for its vendors; you can also sometimes find company reviews at ResellerRatings or TrustLink
Pricing for exactly the same product may vary substantially, depending on vendor; batteries with more cells will generally cost more but should provide more time before recharge

4. I would also invest in a new power cord |
|
Those die too and it sounds like yours is on it's way out.
As for the life of laptop batteries, it depends on the year and make of the computer. Until the last few years, two-three hours was pretty standard length for a charge.
Just the same, finding a replacement battery shouldn't be too difficult and the advice given above is a great way to go about it. Be prepared. Laptop batteries are often crazy expensive. I would determine the exact part and then Google around for the best price. Same goes for a replacement power cord.

5. If your cord is loose, your battery might not be receiving a complete charge |
|
Battery charging (and battery conditioning) algorithms are complex and interrupting a charging cycle can adversely affect the battery. You might want to try getting the cord fixed before determining whether you need a new battery.
