Rainbow Bridge prayers, please. |
|
About 4:40 this afternoon I heard loud barking outside my bedroom window. Peeked out and saw a large white dog standing over one of our strays named Smoke. I scared him off, only to see Smoke drag himself over to the wall by his front paws; the back half of his body completely prostrate. Husband called the cops (from Charlotte - he's resourceful) and I scurried around for a box and a place to take him. He was still alive an hour later when I got everything ready to go (he had hid himself from me in the time it took me to go back in the house and change and get my son ready to go; so I spent valuable time looking for him). Cop came, took my statement (verbally & did not give me his card); and I loaded son and cat into the car to go to emergency vet. Smoke only hissed at me once. His back was broken, they had to put him to sleep. I cried all the way there, all the time I was there; and all the way home. Still crying. He was such a loving sweet baby. I feel like shit. I could have done better by him...  I went over and visited with the lady who's dog it was. I wanted to give her a chance to know before we went any further with it. She's a lovely person. This sucks so bad all around.

1. Extremely large sucking sound. |
|
 You did all you could. It was unpredictable and over by the time you arrived. It was just the loving, sweet baby's time. It does suck enormously. So sorry you have to go through this.

6. Had a beloved cat killed by a local dog once. |

Good ol' sweet Emily. Thing is, she was dying of cancer at the time, and was always pretty fearless, so as my Ex tells it -- I was out at the time -- Emily launched herself at this dog, from the bushes, when it was being walked by.
I always wonder if that was a suicide mission/blaze of glory moment for her. It would suit her.
As for your poor Smoke -- I'm so sorry. But at least Smoke had you in his life, towards the end. And at the end.
Rainbow Bridge prayers headed your way...

Lildreamer, I am so sorry for your loss...:-(
It is so sad...but Smoky is out of pain right now, and he is roaming free with no fear of threats in his path.
"To have loved and then said farewell, is better than to have never loved at all. For all of the times that you have stooped and touched my head, fed me my favorite treat and returned the love that I so unconditionally gave to you. For the care that you gave to me so unselfishly. For all of these things I am grateful and thankful.
I ask that you not grieve for the loss, but rejoice in the fact that we lived, loved and touched each others lives. My life was fuller because you were there, not as a master/owner, but as my FRIEND.
Today I am as I was in my youth. The grass is always green, butterflies flit among the flowers and the Sun shines gently down upon all of God's creatures. I can run, jump, play and do all of the things that I did in my youth. There is no sickness, no aching joints and no regrets and no aging.
We await the arrival of our lifelong companions and know that togetherness is forever. You live in our hearts as we do in yours. Companions such as you are so rare and unique. Don't hold the love that you have within yourself. Give it to another like me and then I will live forever. For love never really dies, and you are loved and missed as surely as we are."

and thinking of my Pomeranian, Weenie, my baby I lost almost exactly 3 years ago.
However, it also gives me comfort to think that when it's anyone's time, they (we) find a way to go... perhaps you had some "messages" that a change was coming? I did with my baby, Weenie...... In between the terrible pain and sorrow, that awareness came to me, a bit here and there, and gave me some tiny comfort. That is wasn't some accident or my fault, but something that had been in the works, she was getting ready, for a while.
and gradually, in between huge huge sorrow that felt unbearable and bottomless, I tried my best to stay with the feeling of comfort that sparkled up, for as long as I could, when I could.
much love and hugs..... keep hugging your babies.....

I'm going to do that now, myself

I am grateful that you know what happened and that your baby did not needlessly suffer and had you to comfort him in the end.
I've asked all my fur angels to greet Smoke and share their tuna.

I'm really sorry. This is not the week for cats. A family cat broke (?) his tail and may need a tail-ectomy. Family is doing the watch and wait, but will probably have to make a decision soon.

I'm sorry for not replying sooner, but my internet was off until this evening (Ak) and then I lost my donor star! Got it all straight though. I really, really appreciate everyone's kindness and I know Smoke does too. I just can't get some of the visuals out of my head..the way he just propped himself up on his front legs and ..looked at me with very wise eyes. He didn't even meow much. Then when I went looking for him to put him in the box, he was pulling himeslf down the neighbor's driveway.. I don't think I'm ever going to forget it. It's haunting me. I have asked him that if he feels like 'coming back' again, I'd be glad to have him...
