was my low point in L&D. I hated doing it, even though I knew pain transmission wasn't that efficient in newborns. The babies didn't like it and I didn't, either.
Babies are already routinely tested for PKU. Adding a couple of other diseases to it is not going to matter, but I doubt parents realize their kid already gets stuck on its way out of the nursery and into the car.

It is, of course, a noble pursuit but one that is doomed to failure on DU.
P.S. The one you surmised has a problem with public health policy - yes, she does.
