Anyone here have an Xbox?
For a long time I refused to by myself any gaming console, because I knew I might get hooked. Well, my brother gave me an Xbox for my birthday because, you know... addicts are always trying to get other people hooked on their particular vice.

And I do have a tendency to get hooked sometimes. I mostly like RPGs, but I'll play almost anything that is well done. My favorite games so far are:

Star Wars: KOTOR (Addictive, absorbing. I give it a 9)
Fable (Good, but way too short. I give it a 8)
SSX3 (Big adrenaline rush. I give it a 9)

I also have Halo 1, which is great, but I get dizzy playing first-person shooters. I had to give up after a few days because of the headaches.

1. I got one a while back.
Not long after it was released.

I've got:
Halo
Air Force Delta Storm
Medal of Honor Frontline
Project Gotham Racing
NHL Hitz 2002
007 Nightfire
The Simpsons Road Rage

I should pick up Halo 2 sometime this week.

2. That's a drag that Halo gives you headaches. It might be just
as well though; it's very addictive.

I bought my husband an XBox so that he could play racing and sports games. Then my son gave us the original Halo.

Both he (age 57) and I (age almost 47) have been ADDICTED ever since! I could never beat the first Halo on legendary though. I beat it many times on all of the other levels of difficulty.

The best aspect of Halo is the ability to play in cooperative mode. We just purchased Halo 2 four days ago. I have a lot of work to do and am trying to keep myself away from the XBox, but from what I've seen so far, I might have a tough time doing so.

3. Try out Morrowind if you like RPGs
A bit more open-ended than KOTOR and more "medieval" in plot but very good nonetheless.

The motion sickness from FPS is pretty common to people new to them. If you stick with it you'll get over that relatively quickly. Halo is truly a fun game abnd Halo 2 looks to be an all-time classic so far. If you get a chance pick up Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, there is a truly strange but VERY cool game.

and I have all the games you mentioned... SSX was the game that got me hooked. Fable was great, KOTOR was indeed great.

I prefer the over-the-shoulder action games - both Buffy the Vampire games were great, both Spiderman games were great, loved Indiana Jones.

I just finished x-men Legends, which was a great mix of action/rpg.

edit...I forgot my favorite game: Enter the Matrix!

SSX3 Junkie here! :hi: Do yourself a favor and pick up SSX Tricky! It's actually IMO a better game. SSX3 feels like a stripped down version of Tricky. SSX3 is great, but Tricky has much more personality.

6. Halo 2
Bought it the day it came out...yes, it's intense and after about 7 straight hours of it you're ready for some serious meditation, but it's the greatest game out there, for any system.

Project Gotham 2 is my favorite racing game.

Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 06:00 PM by No Surrender
in multi-player mode. Too many hallways , and if I play too long the dizziness actually turns to nausea :puke:. I can play at the Skyrail, but I try not to go inside the buildings.

I've also gotten dizzy playing Simpson's Road Rage.

edited for grammar

9. I got the Box.
It is my favorite out of the 3 major systems. I have always been a fan of survival horror games ie. Resident Evil, Silent Hill. But they have nothing on Halo.

14. I know the feeling.
We finally gave in last Christmas. Once we got it, my husband and I would kick the kids off a couple of times a day so we could play. Then we got smart and bought four controllers. Over winter break last year we had numerous nights where all four of us stayed up til just before sunrise.

If I play certain games for too long I get headaches and/or dizzy, so I have a built-in timer.

13. You mostly like RPGs and you have an X-Box?
Dude, get a PS2. For real. :P There's also a decent one or two on the Gamecube (Skies of Arcadia is pretty nice. I can't speak for the Cube version though since I have the original Dreamcast one). But if you like RPGs you really owe it to yourself to pick up a PS2. Besides Final Fantasy (IMO reason enough to get a console) there are tons of great RPGs on there...Suikoden, Star Ocean, Disgaea, Vandal Hearts...not to mention all the PS1 classics too numerous to name.

No offense X-Box owners (don't want to start a fanboy console war, I'm way too old for those :P), but there are maybe two exclusive games in the entire X-Box library I would want to play, and one of them I have on the computer already. I hate sports and "extreme" type games, and I have largely grown out of FPSes (which are 50 times better on the computer anyway). I'm from the old school and don't care how pretty my games are as long as they're fun. I just don't get that from X-Box stuff. It's got little to do with my hating Microsoft, my only gaming company loyalty is to Square. Hell I grew up a Nintendo fangirl (NES, SNES, original clunky Game Boy), but I never got an N64 because as much as I love Zelda I couldn't justify spending all that money on a console for like 1 game (don't get me started on Majora's Mask ;_;). My Cube library is maybe half the size of my PS2 library, but the games I have I REALLY love, and play often.

I don't get what the big deal is over Halo either. It's way too repetitive to me, it's basically the same few levels over and over again with a slightly different twist. I was really miffed about it because they had hyped it as some successor to Marathon which is one of my all time favorite games (I have all 3 on my Mac) and it really didn't have anything to do with it from what I saw.

To each their own...but if you're a serious RPG fan I would really look into a PS2. There's just too many phenomenal games you are missing out on otherwise.

Edited on Thu Nov-25-04 11:04 AM by janx
If you get over the dizziness with first person shooter games, then both of you can play HALO in cooperative mode!

(I'm not kidding, Skinner. My husband and I have played HALO at times for eleven hours straight in cooperative mode.)

Edit: All that's required is another controller.

an X-box. got her to play it with me. We played 18 hours in the first 48 we had it. She is the one who stood in line for Halo 2. well worth it.

15. we've got one
my wife and I have wasted a significant portion of our lives killing aliens (and each other) in Halo. The cooperative mode is so much fun!

We just got Halo 2 - it gave me some motion sickness problems at first, but they seem to have gone away.

and I love it, i'm currently hooked on Fable.

I also have Mortal Kombat: Deception, Star Wars: KOTOR, Halo 2, Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Guilty Gear X2, and NHL 2K5.

Plus, I've played Star Wars: Battlefront. It's absurdly good.

21. I really enjoyed Fable.
Edited on Mon Nov-15-04 11:36 AM by Skinner
But it seemed a little unfair once I figured out how to run up my combat multiplier. Physical Shield, Stop Time, Multi-Strike, Lather-rinse-repeat. It only took me about three hits to kill Jack of Blades at the end. He didn't even land a single hit. I was really, really disappointed.

22. Haha.
Yeah, I figured out the combat multiplier thing too while I was at the never-ending undead resurrection site at Cliffside Path. I actually got my combat multiplier up to 252 for the heck of it.

Hopefully they'll come up with a sequel to Fable and it'll be a little harder to beat.

24. Ah, yes. The never-ending undead.
I did the same thing. I think the combat multiplier is a cool idea, and it forced me to be a better fighter. But it just seems ridiculous to multiply experience points by a number as high as 252. Maybe they could cap it at 20 or something.

Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 10:19 AM by Anarcho-Socialist
It's totally amazing all the things you can do in that game and the freedom to do what you want. If you had a PS2, I would recommend GTA:San Andreas which is the next game in the series, although it'll be out for XBOX in a year or so.

31. I love mine
I just rented Destroy All Humans. Fantastic game, hilarious. There's something really satisfying about shooting the anal probe at cops and watching their brains pop out the tops of their skulls.

Plus, all the thoughts you scan from the various humans are damn funny.

I, too, love Fable, and yes it's too short. I would love to see it more like morrowind, more open-ended. Of course, I love morrowind, but after a while I have to put it down for a long time because I get bored with walking around everywhere after a while.

I may be one of the few people who truly enjoyed DOOM3 here, from what I read. I really got immersed in the creepy atmosphere, and jumped out of my skin countless times.

HALO and HALO 2 go without saying, of course.

The latest game I purchased was Pyschonauts, which is awesome, but I am totally stuck right at the end -

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

you are doing the acrobatic thing chasing your dad, and you get to the trapeze - everytime I just fall into water after jumping off the trapeze at its highest point. I went and looked at a walkthrough and I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. Pretty frustrating.

I liked Star Wars: KOTOR the first time through, but it's so linear that I really lost interest about a third of the way through a replay.

But I wasn't expect a total conversion of DOOM either. I think by far the best game I have played on the system is Ninja Gaiden. I just can't get enough of it.
