1. That brings back memories |

Yeah, I did swear up a storm when ever I got stuck. <look east> blank wall, <look north> bottomless pit, etc. Does anybody remember an all text game called "Trinity"? I never did finish that game. Got teleported into some level / tunnel and was never able to proceed no matter what. Than I discovered King's Quest, Space Quest and, of course, Leisure Suit Larry, and never looked back! Young'uns these days, so spoilt.

2. that does bring back memories, too |
|
i remember getting frustrated from text based adventures back in the day and the occasional creative response.
i also remember a text based adventure called "Fifi" which was based wholly around some sexual escapade (came in a bucket o' games on disk, so meh). commands were supposed to be formulated in 4 letter words or less. so sentences were weird after a while, but most of the time it was 3 and 4 letter words. sex based text based adventure... the height of sad, and me a little kid at the time! O_o O8)

3. I think the basis for Grand Theft Auto... |
|
...was the universal urge to make your video game character turn into a raging lunatic, mass murderer, and nymphomaniac all at the same time, and then have the game engine refuse to let you do what you want to do.
I can remember all the times I tried to force characters in a Sierra adventure to do things with text commands that were never included in the game design!

4. Man those were the days |
|
Anyone remember before those even. When instead of buying your game on disk, you'd buy the book with the code. Learned BASIC that way, would spend hours coding an ASCII game from a book and then enjoy it for a couple minutes lol.
Tried to write my own text adventures (didn't have knack for adding any sort of graphics so it was entirely just text). But best I could come up with ran like one of those old Zork books where you were given 4 or 5 options when you had to make a decision.
Thanks for the memories :)

6. It's all coming back to me... |

I bet I could go dig up some pen-and-paper maps I made to help me through some of those old games... Good times, good times.
