PS3 System Update - 8/10/2011

It said the main feature was for 3D photos. They seem to be declining to tell us what the "minor" features are... I just hope they don't break anything :D

Not sure of the size of the update but it only took a few minutes to download.

1. I'm having issues

First time I tried it I got to the download bar but it had an error at 0%. Now I can't even get to the download bar without an 80711008 or 80710723 errors. There is free Wi-Fi where I live so sometimes it is hit or miss. I constantly move my PS3 around trying to find good reception. Last week for 3 days I downloaded 3 episodes in 1 day and watched Crackle movies with no trouble. Then last weekend I couldn't do nothing online I was trying to download Season 4, Episode 4 - Breaking Bad. On Monday I was downloading around 10 MB every 4 hours then around 8pm AZ time it picked up really fast and I was able to download it fully by 11pm. The way episode 4 ended I'm dying to see episode 5 which airs Sunday Night(I don't have cable to so I pay to download episodes). I'm really hoping I don't have troubles and I have a feeling I have to download this update before I can download the episode.

Not asking for suggestions, just venting. :argh:

2. If you use the PS3 to download, you do need it

I'm pretty sure it said it was a mandatory update so it won't let you in until you have it.

On another note... I noticed it added a new option on the menu, TV/Video Services. Netflix is under there as well as My Channels, has things like HULU plus, MLB TV, VUDU and NHL Gamecenter Live. I think these are all pay services, I want to try them but I'm afraid Sony will just take my money without giving me an option to back out, heh.

3. excellent news

my daughter has a Hulu Plus membership.

I was hoping they'd add Amazon's streaming. Is that one of the options?

But it does have empty boxes, so maybe they plan on expanding or there is a way to add your own channels... I'm not sure but Amazon does not come listed.

One of the articles I looked at for the patch (and I'm not sure which one) made it sound like all of these were available before but for whatever reason were spread around in different menu's and that this is just a consolidation to put them all in one place.
