Sam Mendes on Paul Newman.
For those who might not have seen this article, here's the link:

One part I particularly liked was this: "Paul’s trailer ... was completely empty! There was literally nothing in it at all. He had absolutely no interest in being in the trailer. He wanted to work. That’s what I remember — he was just there. It was just him and his script. And also he didn’t travel with any assistants. No assistants, no driver or trainer, no entourage at all."

I'm firmly convinced that the size of a performer's entourage is in direct proportion to their insecurity, and in
inverse proportion to their talent. The Madonnas, Nicoles, J-Loes, who can't move without at least twelve
bodyguards, could never hold a candle to a Newman.

1. Well said. A real person. Yes, that is a refreshing change.
But I suspect that he just doesn't get mobbed when he goes out, as do some people.
