LOL Chuck D and DL Hughley school Michael Steele on black people
I posted this video yesterday in Pol Videos:

Chuck D and Hughley explain black people to Michael Steele

Chuck D and DL Hughley try valiantly to school Michael Steele on why the Repub brand is not being bought by black people. Hughley at one point even refers to the Repub convention as looking like it happened "in Nazi Germany."

I have to admit, Steele doesn't do his "homeboy" schtick and is not nearly as nauseating as he normally is.

1. I read in your "mainstream" post that Steele
was the least annoying on D.L.'s show as you have seen him. The following link, I think, might surprise you because he really sounds like a brother. It happened last year at Tavis Smiley's State of Black America event, and my jaw just about hit the floor when I heard Steele claim emphatically that "politics, party never ever trumps race."

Steele is an enigma. He is level-headed - even likeable - among us, as seen in this clip and in his appearance on DL Hughley. When his audience is white folk, though, he comes off as buffoonish. Perhaps the only way he has made it as far as he has in his party is to shuffle and jive. How he can switch so easily is beyond me.

2. A most excellent question!

How he can switch so easily is beyond me

When you have absolutely no morals, ethics or principles beyond getting ahead and coming out on top, there is absolutely NOTHING you will find beneath you. And that (unfortunately) includes sounding like an utter fool in order to reassure your racist, Repub friends that you can "talk the talk" (read: shuck and jive) of the black community while offering absolutely nothing in terms of substance.

Steele is providing cover for every single racist within the Repub ranks, and that's alooooot of folks. When he ultimately fails, and let's face it we all know he will, then they can all say "see! We reached out to those people and even used one of their own. And they STILL told us to suck eggs." He mentions his "bling bling" when standing in front of a room full of whites; talks about his "off the hook" PR plan for the Repub party and doesn't bat an eye when clueless lunatic Michelle Bachmann tells him "you be da man." He would much rather do all of this because it so much easier than having to come up with policies and procedures that address the issues affecting black people, people of color and poor people in this country -- the same communites he is so quick to let all of us know he's from though he has done NOTHING to improve the quality of life for any of them.

That man's inevitable self-implosion cannot come fast enough. Oh and as for his quote at Tavis' forum, like I told you before I am blown away but like you said, he is not stupid. He is an opportunist of the highest form, but he is not stupid. And he probably said exactly what he knew he HAD to say to that audience.

Yesterday Mr. Aluminum apologized to Rush, saying something about not insulting Rush's leadership or some rot to that effect and people are excoriating him for it.

that long to apologize. Does Rush have all of these clowns over a barrel, or what??

Have fun at class! You are making me feel bad! I recently got accepted into a grad certificate program, but seeing as how I still have nightmares (not to mention payments) from my Master's, the idea of going through all that again ain't looking so appetizing right now. :)

5. Steele had a brief moment when he could have
shut down the white-right wing noise machine---had he only stuck to his principles, had belief in his abilities, was well grounded in who he was and confident in the job he was elected to do.

He failed on all of those fronts the moment he went with his hat in his hand to massa limpfink. As a black woman, I cannot respect him for doing that. He is a fuckin' punk. I may not have agreed with his politics, but I could respect him for what he has accomplished in his life. He has thrown all of that away by issuing limpfink an apology. I'd have preferred to see him stick to his guns and take his asswhippin' for his truth like a man.

He's nothing but an effin' punk.

The RWingers are on his @ss more than ever. Every other day, an article comes out with some Republican questioning his "leadership" and saying that he's "in over his head."

If he had stuck with his principles, they'd still be on him but at least he'd look more like a man instead of some shuffling fool crawling with cap in hand to his "betters."

It seems like every black person in the world has been expressing that sentiment. That Steele, who had veerrrry little credibility with black folks to begin with, has lost every last DROP of what he had after running to apologize to Rush for speaking the TRUTH.

I give him 3-4 more weeks, tops. He's out. Couldn't have happened to a bigger idiot.

9. And...it is interesting who is publicly going after him.
They have obviously recruited the black woman from Tennessee who was on Rachel yesterday to do their dirty work. Somehow her internal memo was "leaked." First they recruit Steele to bump heads with our black president. Now, they bring him down with her. More black-on-black crime.

If it wasn't so predictable, it would be funny.

She started her interview yesterday thanking whoever it was in her party who "allowed" her to speak with Maddow. She appeared to be thoroughly enjoying her 15 minutes.

As much as I dislike Steele (especially the side of him that he exposes to his base), I would never disparage him in an open forum particularly if it was to placate them. The TN woman is a republican, though. I do not try to understand any of them.

Airing our dirty laundry....I still think we should do it behind closed doors.

As a victim of sins-of-my-brothers syndrome, I had to put Steele in the "other" category a long time ago. Rather than hitting my head against the wall or feeling undue embarrassment every time he opens his mouth, I have disowned him. He is right in there with OJ and anyone on Maury seeking to prove/disprove paternity.

Still, I was outraged last week when I heard that there was a push to require two signatures on every check issued by the RNC. There they go again, holding a black man down... Because it was Steele though, the outrage subsided quickly. Still, I wonder how he can continue to act the buffoon knowing what people in his party really think of him. www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2009/04/29/steele/

Oh, and for light, humorous reading, I recommend this 4/6/09 article written by Bob Beckel: www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2009/02/democrats_beware_of_michael_st.html
Particularly interesting is Beckel's belief that Steele is strongly anti-choice and comments like this one from tcogs: Steele is a pit-bull; perfect to lead the honorable charge to destroy liberalism! I bet tcogs wishes he could take that one back. :D

Yep, we can throw OJ and everyone on Maury/Jerry/Montel etc. etc. in there as well. And don't forget Uncle Clarence on the Supreme Court.

I had no idea about the RNC trying to take away Steele's power. Thanks so much for that link. Does it not even occur to these idiot Republicans that this does not make them look good? They've got the first black RNC Chairman EVER and barely two months into his term, they're trying to pass rules that require two signatures for him to sign checks and trying to take away most of his authority. Is there no one within their ranks that has the common sense to say "folks, we already have a problem getting minorities to take us seriously. THIS DOES NOT HELP. Yes, Steele is an idiot and maybe a bit deranged, but trying to put a public collar on the first black RNC Chair when we are desperately trying to appeal to blacks is NOT A GOOD IDEA."

And I don't know which is funnier from that Beckel article. This line - "He has a disarming and gifted television personality and an uncanny ability to make the most unreasonable arguments sound rational." or this one - "Steele faces challenges, perseveres, and succeeds." He's got those first two components of that second sentence down, but we're still waiting on that third one. :)

The funding fight comes on the heels of another open challenge to Mr. Steele's authority. Unhappy RNC conservatives secured the signatures to force the committee to convene next month's special meeting to vote on a resolution labeling Democrats as "socialists," despite the chairman's reservations about the political wisdom of the move.

They are going to vote about what to call us.

You know, Steele is probably one of the sanest ones in the bunch. He just bugs me more cause he's a brother.

Steele revisited the 2008 election to insist that President Obama had never been “vetted” because the press “fell in love with the black man”:

STEELE: The problem that we have with this president is that we don’t know . He was not vetted, folks. … He was not vetted, because the press fell in love with the black man running for the office. “Oh gee, wouldn’t it be neat to do that? Gee, wouldn’t it make all of our liberal guilt just go away?

From http://thinkprogress.org/2009/05/22/steele-obama-race/

Typical damn stupid Republican. I officially hate him. Cyndensco, I know we said that we would try to put Steele in the "other" category so we wouldn't feel ashamed whenever he opened his mouth, but he has truly crossed a line with this mess.

And I won't even mention how very similar he sounds to a significant number of DUers of late. The ones who gave Obama all of three weeks in office before they started bitching about every single move he made. And they are STILL bitching, even now and will be until the day the man leaves office.

48. This set me off too!
First of all, President Obama wasn't the first black man to run for President. He got swept over the coals during the 2yrs leading up to the election.

I officially want to kick Steele's ass. Sorry, that is just the way I feel about it. He is truly showing his ass for white folks that will never accept his ass anyway. These comments have officially made me less embarrassed, and more angry!

:grr:

49. Exactly
In the beginning, I felt a little sorry for Steele. Then I laughed at him. REPEATEDLY.

I'm not laughing anymore. He is an @sshole and an idiot. And whatever it is the Republicans promised him to get him to speak like this about Obama cannot possibly be worth it.

He has not brought a single black or brown person to the Repub party talking like this. The only thing he's doing is cementing himself among the racist idiots in that party who are only cheering him because he is completely selling himself out and looking like a fool. I have no doubt that all of this will backfire and the Repubs, whose @sses he's kissing soooo hard right now, will GLEEFULLY turn on him in a heartbeat.

I may be mistaken but I remember it being discussed. He's a hired dancing clown at this point.

51. "Steele on Sotomayor: “God Help You if You Are a White Male”
In an interview with CNN's Campbell Brown, Steele spoke about Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court who would be the first Hispanic justice.

“God help you if you're a white male,” he said. “If you're seeking justice, this may not be the bench you want to go before.”

http://www.afro.com/tabid/551/itemid/3863/Steele-on-Sotomayor-God-Help-You-if-You-Are-a-Wh.aspx

In light of the really interesting historical conversations we've been having around here lately, the fact that a black man would imply that a Hispanic woman is somehow a "threat" to white men is so absurd, so idiotic and so blatant an attempt to appeal to the worst among our citizenry that I really think that every minority group, from the NAACP and La Raza to the Asian American Southwest Dental Association should denounce him.

I won't ask "could he be any more of a sell-out?" because we know he'll find a way to do just that.

52. Will Steele be trading in his Dockers for prison blues??
What the...???! Article here

"State elections officials have told the financially strapped Maryland Republican Party that it must repay $77,500 that Michael S. Steele, now the national GOP chairman, transferred to it in an apparent violation of campaign finance laws.

The state party faces a deadline in two weeks to resolve several alleged violations. If it remains unsettled, the matter ultimately could be referred to state prosecutors for possible charges."

...The elections board directive adds to the problems, including outstanding debts and a recent spate of infighting, that have beset the Maryland GOP. It also comes in the wake of allegations that surfaced earlier this year regarding Steele's mishandling of campaign funds. Those accusations were made by Steele's former finance committee chairman for his unsuccessful U.S. Senate run in 2006, Alan B. Fabian, who was convicted of fraud unrelated to his political work."

Damn, Michael! :wtf:

Is this a case of incompetence or corruption? And with Michael Steele in the mix, is there a difference???

Here's the really sad bit:

"Republican party operatives acknowledge that it would be extraordinarily difficult for the state party to raise $77,500 in the coming weeks. The GOP has had trouble with fundraising after defeats in the last election and in the midst of the recession"

All together now... AWWWWW! Guess we know now why he's been so quiet lately. :)

53. Well if there was any doubt it's safe to say it's been removed
a mix of incompetence and corruption. Definitely a Republican.

Let's hope they don't do what the Young Republicans did at UCLA and have an "affirmative action" bake sale to raise money.

54. lol Oh, I would pay big money and drive great distances
to laugh at Repubs having to raise funds for their corruption through "bake sales." I have no idea what an "affirmative action" bake sale is but one thing I've learned is that Republicans and their ilk are masters of offensive behavior. If they put half as much thought into policy as they do alienating and pissing people off, they'd be unstoppable.

Maybe the NoI can show them how to make bean pies. :)

Steele, RNC: Obama presidency a "failed experiment"

This just in...Barely six months into his four-year term, Barack Obama's presidency is a flop.

Don't take our word for it. The Republican National Committee has just released a web ad that writes off Obama's presidency as "a failed experiment in just 200 days.

How I LOATHE this man. How I despise him! I spit upon his home and his name!!

And the question of the day is -- Why does 1/3 of DU sound just like this fool with his "Obama's a failure 6 months in" bullcrap?!

59. I know it's been forever since we had a Michael Steele moment, but this was too good
to pass up.

"Steele Lashes Out: Critics Should ‘Get a Life,’ ‘Shut Up,’ ‘Fire Me … or Get out of the Way’

ABC News’ Aaron Katersky and Rick Klein report: RNC Chairman Michael Steele is lashing out his critics, with a series of blunt messages for prominent Republicans who have blasted him over his leadership for the Republican Party.

“I tell them to get a life. That’s old Washington, that’s old ways, and I don’t represent that, and that kills them,” Steele told ABC News Radio in an interview today.

“I’m telling them and I’m looking them in the eye and say I’ve had enough of it. If you don’t want me in the job, fire me. But until then, shut up. Get with the program or get out of the way.”

Somebody's getting cranky!

Steele is getting the same treatment from his "peeps" on the right that Obama is getting from alot of the same type of folks on the left. The difference? Steele actually deserves it.

How long before he gets canned? And how long after that before he come out with a "Brother Obama, I am sorry for the stuff I said about you. You're all right with me" moment?

Worst RNC cash flow in a decade
By Aaron Blake - 01/06/10 06:00 AM ET
A 2009 spending spree has left the Republican National Committee (RNC) with its worst election-year cash flow this decade.

The largest GOP party committee has $8.7 million in the bank heading into an election year with 37 governors’ races, a dozen major Senate contests, dozens more in the House and an all-important redistricting cycle on the horizon.

The RNC had $22.8 million in cash and no debt when Michael Steele was elected chairman at the end of January, but has since seen its cash on hand drop to less than $9 million at the end of November.
