Anyone started fishing yet? |
|
This is mainly directed toward northerners. If you live some place where you can't walk on the water three months of the year, then you are spoiled and I don't want to hear about it. :P For the rest of you have the lakes opened up yet? Has the season begun?
I just bought a whole bunch of line in preparation for re-spooling all my reels, wooo hoooo! I'll be hitting the streams with my fly rod next week if the weather cooperates but I don't expect the lakes to be ice free for some time yet. x(
So, are they bitin'?

time of the year to fish panfish is right around the corner. I love the black ice period when it can get to 70 degrees like tomorrow and you can still ice fish. We still have 20 inches of ice where I live. But I can't wait for open water fishing.

3. I gave up on the ice fishing thing a while back |
|
I'll go as a social thing every now and again, drink a few beers, (sorry, I apologize for fulfilling a stereotype) but I never really got into it.
The ice is probably getting a little iffy around here too. Give it a couple, three weeks and it'll be breaking up.

4. Went for Striped Bass last weekend............... |
|
They were starting to move into the back bays so I took a shot even though it's early. No bites but still a wonderful time just watching the water go by.

We'll be fishing a lake I've never fished before, actually it's a large river system called Artery Lake. Lot's of 40+ inch Northerns and Walleye up to 30 inches, it's about a 5 day trip depending on the weather. It's a fly in fly out trip, the scenery's incredible and the shore lunches of fresh caught Walleye and fried potato's and onions are great. If you've never done it before, i highly recommend it.

I've always wanted to go up and fish for some giant brookies. More recently the idea of a woodland caribou hunt has piqued me interest. So much to do, so little time and money...

9. I Did Good On Sawyer Lake (Langlade) This past Weekend |
|
My hubby & his dad caught more, but I got an 8.5 " bluegill (the biggest fish that day). We caught about 20 good ones within 4 hours. Got checked by the DNR warden on the way out.

good on the warden. I'm glad they are out there checking up on folks.
I had a good day today, caught a mess o' bass, mostly smallmouth, but also a four pound largemouth, which for up here, is pretty good sized.

On Lake Winnebago in WI. Last week's bug hatch virtually shut off the bite, but I got a few last night.

12. Did some light fishing |
|
In july...used a lot of spinner bait, and rooster tails...I was fishing on a bud of mines land, so I had a ball...caught quite a few smallmouth bass, and throw away perch. Damn, I miss home! Fishing in AK is such...a thrill! One of the hardest things for me to learn living in the midwest, was that the fish were a lot more...finicky, with what they wanted to hit on...back home, I didnt' have to worry much...throw a herring chunk on the hook, and WHO know what will hit on it!....:) Plus the small fish of the midwest, man....tiny. I saw a guy jump up and down when he caught a 4lb largemouth bass, and I was like...bleh, he has no idea....:)
