Can anyone get this video to work (Kerry & Khatami in '07 at Davos summit) |
|
http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=product_video_info&products_id=196446-1I click the video but nothing comes up. I just find it deliciously interesting that Andrew Sullivan is now quoting Khatami as the good guy here: http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2009/06/khatami-a-commission-to-investigate-the-vote.htmlWhen he called Kerry a disgrace back in 2007 for a pic w/ Khatami and saying America had become an international pirhana. http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/01/kerry_and_khata.htmlYes, I am a forgiving soul, but that doesn't mean I don't forget.

Does the video work if you click on the flash video icon on the right? It works for me -- at least it did just now...who knows next time? :-)

7. When I click it, it brings up a screen that should show video, but it remains blank. |
|
I have Real Player, so I don't know why I can't watch it.

Khatami was a moderating influence, more so even than Mousavi. (Mousavi has been more radical in the last ten days than in the whole 30 years before that. This movement has moved him toward more open and democratic views.)
Sen. Kerry was right and the change in US govt proves it. That is why Repubs are so desperate to crap all over Obama even when they admit that Obama is a catalyzing force in our foreign policy.
(I really have to catch up and watch that Cairo speech from 2 weeks ago. I haven't had a chance to see it yet. Sigh!)

3. He did, didn't he (Sully)? |

Shame on him, not so much for being so unfair to both Kerry and Khatami, but mainly for saying something so inherently stupid, when he is anything but a stupid guy.
As to Khatami, anybody who advocates a "dialogue of civilization" IS a good guy in my book, differences nonwithstanding (that's why we need the dialogue in the first place).

Nice catch - it was shocking that Kerry's intelligent comments were attacked by the right at that time and good that Sullivan seems to making sense now. The fact was that Khatomi was the pro-democracy leader. If there was ANYONE in Iran we could speak to - it was Khatomi, who was likely the best of all the people even tangentially in the circle of people who had any link at all to the government.
(I did think it funny that Jeff Beatty remember the controversy but conflated Khatomi with Amadhinijad accusing Kerry of speaking to him in one of their debates. )

|
when he had not fully understood politics and had his change, but to say it just in 2007 is just not excusable and he should apologize.
