I am not new to DU, but despite being proud of being a liberal Catholic, I have never posted here before. I guess I had sort of neglected my faith a bit, you might say, and it took the sad passing of John Paul II to prod me into thinking more about religious matters. So I just wanted to say hi and that I'm going to try to poke my head in here a bit more often.

1. Hello right back atcha |

Welcome, welcome, welcome. :hi:
May I say something?
The faith? The holy Catholic faith? Be a part of it! It's holy and good and deep and beautiful. Live it as best you can. Don't let any bad pope, cardinal, priest or lay Catholic ever put you off doing so.
Catholicism is about spirituality and ethics, and where those things come from, and why, and about what their ultimate significance is in terms of human destiny. I don't believe that that ought ever to be neglected. We dive down into the dark deep of our own souls, and the Church presents us with images and metaphors of what we find there. I can't live without it, even when I can't live with it.
What I find there is so opposed to the Republican Party's 'values'. Its 'ethics and spirituality' appal me. My Catholicism makes me want to stand up against their wicked crapology.
So be a liberal, not just who happens to be Catholic, but because you're Catholic.

I wasn't much into the faith until John Paul II's 25th anniversary as Pope.

I'm not a practicing Catholic, in fact, I'm probably more agnostic, but I still have strong, positive feelings toward the Church I was raised in.
I finally got the nerve to post around here the night John Paul died.
I promised a couple of DU friends I'd look in a bit more often. And I'm glad I did.

And I agree with Stunster -- be proud of being liberal because you're Catholic! The Church Militant (on earth) has never been, and never will be, perfect. It's the Church Triumphant (in Heaven) where we'll find perfection. ;-)
